Active directory group policy crap is annoying. They keep taking away everyone's rights to do anything. I've got a 40GB partiton that's just sitting there empty anyway.

I'm sure it'll annoy IT to no end :)

Can I do that? I don't think I can log in with a local account on this machine.

If you have admin rights to the box you should be able to create a local user and just give it admin rights.

I doubt notfred cares to infringe against Apple's copyright.

If I had admin rights, then I wouldn't have all these annoying restrictions in the first place.

The IT dept here is basically a windows-only shop. They pretty much ignore anything having to do with people's macs and unix boxes, because not many people have them.

Nothing, really. It's jsut frustrating to use a machine that wont, say, let you install software.

Just got a new desktop system delivered (1GHz P3 512MB -> 3.8GHz P4 2GB - Yea!)

Wiping the drive and installing FC5 is the first order of business. I did the same with my current desktop 4 years ago. On top of being my OS & toolchain of choice, it keeps IT out of my hair to a large degree. Root on my own box, no virus scan from hell, etc.

If someone from management sees you running Linux, you're gone. Because as we all know, Linux is only used for Hacksorizing the Gibsons, stealing movies and music, downloading kiddie porn, and supporting terrorism. :p

If someone from management sees me running linux they won't know the difference from Windows, anyway. It'll just look like a computer to them. Even if thy did know the difference, they'd assume I was running it for a reason.
