I think if the car company of the same name didn't exist...

Mercedes is indeed an ugly name. My dad drives one currently and he only refers to it as the Benz. Can't say I blame him. All I think about is that slut from GTA as well.

When you say "Mercedes Colomar" in a Grim Fandango voice, it sounds awesome, far from ugly.

 
I don't think you'd get sued for it. If it's perceived image you're talking about, fair enough. But I think it's a nice English (i.e.: written in English, not english language) name.
 
Actually Mercedes was named after one of the founder's daughters. (I don't recall if it was Herr Daimler, or Benz, or someone else).

Personally if I ever have a daugher, I'm naming her Aztek.
 
Oldsmobile is available if you'd like to name her that. Or Le Car or Yugo or how about DeLorean, a nice sounding name.

Edit: There are lots of girls named Mercedes around here.

Meh, most of the girls that I know named Mercedes, Portia (sounds like porsche-a) are filthy rich daddie's girls, actually all of the girls I know named Mercedes or Portia are, I don't dislike any of them, but they are just wealthy beyond understanding heh.
