I think I'd have better luck writing my own window manager than trying to install KDE3....

fvck this crap... 9 trillion dependencies, and now no KDE at all, just kwm....

what , you mean its not easy to use and it doesnt work right off the bat? you cant be running linux. that just doesnt make sense.

this is kinda funny...i don't doubt your abilities at all...but surely you know microsoft has its major downfalls as well...this should be even more illuminated to you based on your credential.

Maybe I was just lucky, but I got it installed in Mandrake 8.2.
I downloaded all the rpms at work, burned them to CD, and used the command rpm -ivh --nodeps *.rpm

The --nodeps part is what will get you past all those dependencies, or at least it did for me.

Why are you compiling it? Why not use the binary packages? And if you dont like redhats package management system(I hate it) try debian or gentoo. On gentoo, if you want kde...you just type 'emerge kde' and it does everything for you...its great.
