My office sits next to a conference room. Well every Thursday and some Fridays (this being one of them) one of the departments on my floor has an hourly meeting. The supervisor of this department is understatingly vocal. Usually I can hear everything she says. I especially liked her speech "I'm a winner, I don't like to be 2nd. Second place only means that you are a loser".
But today was much different and really weird. As everyone starts to assemble, I overhear the supervisor say "Has everyone been told that they are special today?" Of course, my initial reaction is WTF are you asking that stupid question for. What surprised me more was there were actually people who responded in the negative. So she had other staff members tell those who hadn't been called special that they were indeed special. Huh?
Ok, I giggled about their sillyness and went back to work.
But wait, were my ears deceiving me? No! It is! It's the Supervisor leading the group in a song!!! They start singing "You are Special":
You are special, special
special in your own way
You are special, special
blah, blah, blah, blah.... (sorry couldn't remember the rest of it since I started cracking up laughing)
They sang both verses and while there was laughter from the room at the beginning, by the end all of the staff (about 15-20) were in full chorus. I couldn't believe my ears - this coming from professionals (we are mostly bean counters and clerks and such). I wonder what's next - group hugs and open crying? Then again maybe this is what this group needs after the fight between to staffers last month.
