I think I put the heatsink on wrong...

I got a new Volcano 12 Extreme Edition recently and I put it on my AMD Athlon XP 2800+ Barton, but I noticed I put it on backwards, and that some parts of the CPU weren't making contact with the heatsink. The heatsink locked in place and everything, but it was just on the opposite way (it was the latch-on type) and my comp wouldn't post. It wouldn't get into the BIOS or anything, it would just give me a black screen, even though the fan was spinning, the video card fan was spinning, the mobo fan was spinning, the case fan was spinning, and my mouse lit up as usual.

Now, I also installed a 400w fortron power supply at the same time, but I'm guessing it's the heatsink that was causing me trouble, or am I wrong?

Either way, my mom accidentally threw away my thermal compound so I'm kind of screwed atm, going to get some more tomorrow or the day after.

probably is the heatsink... i'd try to just turn it around for now and see if it posts... then again there is a chance the chip is fried if you could see that the cpu wasn't makiing contact with the heatsink
