I think I need to change my number!

In the last year I have had almost a hundred calls from various collection agencies trying to collect from many about 20 people that use my number as a contact. I'm tired of cussing on the phone when they ask me "Are you sure so and so doesn't live there! Funny thing is every one of those people that they are looking for is of Spanish decent.

It's illegal for them to keep calling you like that. If it's the same agencies doing it repeatedly, tell them to stop or you'll phone the police. You can also call your phone service provider and get them to blacklist those numbers. Or just change your number entirely.

Not sure and I really hate it. So far I have had calls from Lowe's, medical collections, several lending firms, and to top it off vacation resorts. Luckily it doesn't tie in to my credit... I checked!

Is the phone a tracfone?

If they keep calling, maybe you should play along and have some fun with them.

Nope. Its my house phone through CenturyLink (formally Embarq). Just got another call. I hate that I have to call all the people that have this number as my contact when I change it!

Get a google voice number and give everyone that #. Or cancel the landline completely.

ha...i had a work cell phone that was like that. It was a nextel with a Detroit(313) number, and I was getting quite a few calls from a collection agency looking for Latonya (sp?). It was pretty annoying.

The worst is when they have your fax number. about 30%-40% of our fax ink use to go to waste because of these random people who had our number. We changed it though.

How does a google # help his current problem? It'd help his problem of having to give people a new number in the future, but he still has to give people the new #, and the collection agencies still have his real non-google number so he'll still be bothered.

While I agree he should use a google # for his home phone from now on, it doesn't help his current issue.

After years of getting collection calls for the same 2 people, we changed our number.

Now we get even more collection calls for some other people...

My wife had this number for a period of time where this person's "friends" kept calling. People from her church and stuff.

Needless to say I'm not sure they made the friends list of whoever had the number previously. It was so frequent my wife changed her number.

I occasionally get calls from a collection agency looking for Monique Hernandez. They're slowly stopping though.

He changes his #, or ditches the landline completely, then only uses Google Voice. Phone calls can then be blocked.
