I think I might have screwed up my eyes

I wear contact lenses, and tend to leave them in when I sleep, sometimes weeks at a time. I've done this for 4 years now. I noticed my vision was getting a little worse, and that my eyes started to get more veins in them but for some reason this seemed minor to me.

Well, today I realized how screwed up my eyes are. I spend most of my time indoors. A while ago I went out to arlington racetrack, and discovered that it hurts to focus on things far away. It just feals weird, and my eyes don't focus properly. Also, recently when I wake up my eyes are a little cloudy, but it clears up in a couple minutes. I'm really scared to go to the eye doctor now, especially after reading what that "veiny" thing signifies (eyes arn't getting enough oxygen naturally, so the veins drag up). Anyone know how bad things are going to be when I get the balls to finally see an eye doctor?

Uh.. with that kind of info it seems like your vision might be permanent unless you see a doctor right away... you are supposed to take out contacts every night unless otherwise told to make sure you clean off the bacteria on them. Think of all the crap that has been on your eyes for that length of time. Go NOW.

bah, i slept with mine in for quite a while.

but then i changed to night n days, i cant tell a difference, but it makes my parents feel better.

You probably just got a bit of pus in your eye, and possibly a minor abrasion. You should see a doctor to be sure (I'm definitely not one), but he will probably tell you not to wear your lenses for a week or two.

Your an idiot for hanging around.

Your vision is one of the most important things, if i had something wrong with my eyes i would be at a hospital / doctor surgery IMMEDIATELY demanding to be seen.

The flu or a cold is minor, heck a serious headache / migraine is minor, your eyes are not.

Going to an optometrist.at this stage is pointless. I would recommend against it.

I disagree. I would wait until personally I either had blood literally oozing out of my eyes, or I had to hold them in, or I was blind (and hearing voices) before getting them checked out. Eyes are stupid, and if you have to go to a doctor to get them looked at they're just not worth it.

I say the above facetiously, because in truth we shouldn't even be reading this thread. Chu should firstly not have worn his contacts for weeks on end, and secondly should have gone to an eye doctor long, long ago. Anything that happens to him now, tragic as it may be (because vision is probably the most important sense), is entirely his own fault.

Your eyes have veins in them & that seemed minor? Jesus you are an idiot.

Your cornea does not have it's own blood supply, it absorbs oxygen from the air. That's why you don't leave contacts in, they prevent your cornea for getting proper oxygen. If deprived long enough your corneas will develop their own blood supply. (looks like you already knew that part)

I don't know if there's any way to fix that, a cornea transplant MIGHT fix it.

You need to go to an opthalmologist RIGHT THE HELL NOW. Find a cornea specialist if you can.

Actually I'm thinking that this is another "Should I see a doctor" thread. I've made some joking ones in the past. It probably is one, and if it's not, refer to what Viper said in his second sentence. Nighty night.

meh, you'll get over it...I left my contacts in for 2 or 3 weeks at a time up until a few months ago (finally got glasses with the right scrip), and as long as you let them rest every now and then, you'll be fine. The veins go away (mine are much whiter and clearer now 🙂)....but I never had the focusing problems you have. Pain, yes, focusing problems, no. ^_^

What is with you people leaving contacts in for so long?

I would kill for perfect vision (which I will never have, at best I'll be wearing contacts all my life & praying for 20/20 even with correction - At worst I will need multiple cornea transplants & a lifetime of constantly degrading corneas), yet you guys are risking it all for the convenience of not removing/inserting contacts.

I'm really careful about my contacts and my eyes. I can't believe anyone would leave them in overnight, much LESS 2-3 weeks at a time. I clean mine with an enzymatic cleaner daily, and change pairs on schedule. Think of all the CRAP that builds up when you wear them over night.

what he said, my vision has gotten worse every year since i was in 2nd grade, i fully expect to be blind by the time i'm 30. note that i have never worn contact either

😕 So you're waiting till . . . what?
Your problem will probably go away after you start good contact lens hygiene, but WHY TAKE RISKS WITH YOUR EYES?! Go see MD now. Just think how life would suck if you can't read ATOT 😀

Just wait till the veins in your eyes explode and you'll have to be taken to the hospital with a bandage around your eyes that's RED... now that's not fun.
