I think I just got scammed on Half.com

Bought a Textbook on August 30th and still have not received it. Half.com wants me to wait until tomorrow to file a claim; since its possible for a book to take 14 days to be received since Media Mail is used as the shipping method.

I contacted the seller and no response, contacting him again today. I mean maybe the book is lost and it?s not his fault but he just received 3 negative feedbacks with people still waiting for their books?

Luckily half.com says that they protect people up to $750, but now I?m behind three weeks of reading?

Anyone else have experience with Half.com

Update: Seller still selling books.. don't buy from him..

I bought a book on August 23rd, and never received it. The seller is no longer an active member. I filed a claim and am waiting now.

I did get a few books from Half.com, but most of them were from shops, and no individuals

I've filed claims in the past and although it takes a while(30 days sometimes) they do refund you. What I do in cases like yours is just go and buy the book from the bookstore.

So you don't get your money back right away?

My rule: If it's an important item to have, then I only buy directly from an established store.

My rule does not help you at all. Sorry.

Amazon all the way, got my books from there this year and saved a boat load. OP could you just check the book out from the library in the meantime?

No library has it. School library doesnt and also all local libraries in my area.

Amazon is expensive. I only buy from them or Barnes and Noble if the book price is the same as on half.com or its not worth buying from Half.com since you pay for shipping while its free on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Also usually they get the books in like 2 day to me.

Oh well... I got scammed and i'll deal with it.

If by getting your book on time when you need is considered wasting money, then yeah I guess he wasted money.

He didn't say he only buys full price from the campus bookstore, only that if he goes discount, he tries to pick reputable discounters.

Three weeks in is prime time for a quiz/test, increasing chance of the latter if on a quarter calendar. If he hasn't been reading the book somehow, good luck.

But hey, if you can take all your classes Pass/Fail/Not graded option and can prevent yourself from slacking off so far that you end up Failing, then go to town pinching pennies. If you don't even need the book and can get As, why the heck are you taking that class? (The profs assign a text with the expectation that most students will need to read it to get the highest grade, otherwise why even bother assigning one.)

I'm buying to book tonight and doing a long long catch up session this weekend at the library.

a lot of those sellers on half.com sends via media mail.

and shipping via media mail is a hit and miss. sometimes it takes forever and sometimes it comes quick.

I ordered a book on the 21st, never got it and no responses from the seller, claim was filed and am hoping they refund it. I ordered the same book on the 11th from a seller with much more established feedback and am still waiting, it shipped a day or two later, with priority mailing, and it's not here yet - hit and miss like isekii said.

The god thing about half.com is you don't have to worry about losing money, since you don't directly pay the merchants. I've bought & sold to members who lost/closed their accounts a few days after, & it didn't effect me getting my payment or eventual refund.

I'm a seller also and I never had a book not arrive through Media Mail. Up to this problem I never had a problem recieving a book. Yes sometimes it would take like two weeks and sometimes like less than a week. But the user that sold me this book all sudden has 4 negative feedbacks with people complaining about not receiving the books.

I would not discourage anyone from using Half.com. Just next time no more buying from someone with 0 feedback.

How long does it usually take to get your refund?

What annoys me about buyers @ Half.com is they don't understand the meaning of MEDIA MAIL and then get mad at the seller when it take two months to get the book to them.

I always offer expedited shipping on the books I sell...but, if the buyer doesn't choose the added fee, it's being sent Media Mail. Then I get emails asking where the book is when they needed it for class that starts next week...dumb ******.

Half.com says up to 30 days. I just file the claim today. They also say don't contact us within the 30 days inquiring about the claim... they have to fully investigate it.

I never had that problem yet. I always use Media Mail. I used to do expedite but Half.com doesn't cover the full charge for that. Also when I was selling a lot of books and was shipping like three books a day, I must admit that I messed up twice and shipped a book Media Mail but i refunded the users the difference.
