I think i just found the most realistic 3D rock render I've ever laid eyes on.

2 ati 4850s in crossfire solve the problem. i'm sure some of the newer cards in single config work just as well.

I ran crysis at max settings at 1680x1050 on my system and i was getting like 80 FPS or more.

...80 fps? really?

lol.. and to think we used to play games like this:

the-legend-of-zelda-four-swords-adventures-20040602015042662.jpg

And that game is still 10x more fun than Crysis. 😛 LTTP, right?

I wish the Crytek engine would get more use. Beautiful environments, but we need more gameplay.

Some of the screenshots look like shit and some of it looks amazing... Some looks real and some looks like it's from half-life 2 or something... >_>

its the artist... alot of screen shots come from the user community where not every one is a pro.. the capability of the engine is there, its just not always used correctly or to its fullest.

HL2 might be old, but it has yet to meet its match for facial expressions.

And back OT. Excellent rocks, still not real yet though.

LOL! I think you may be looking back at HL2 with rose-colored glasses. HL2 had ground-breaking facial expressions for the time and they still look pretty good, but they're certainly not perfect and I can think of a couple of recent games with better expressions (Dragon Age, MW2, F.E.A.R.2) and I'm certain there are others.

Yeah, the decking to the left of the tank screenshot looks odd - its the same textures reused and resized for the smaller bit of decking as the larger bit.

Interesting that as the graphics card and the game engine gets more powerful it requires more and more work to actually _use_ it well. I don't remember having to worry about 'caustics' and specular lighting when making levels with the Duke Nukem Build engine. The art/design/modelling/architecture side of game making is presumably going to demand more and more talent and bigger and bigger budgets.

Yeah I miss fun games too. Crysis sucked ass.

Hey what if someone redid Zelda A Link To The Past but with pretty rock graphics? Keep the sound the same though. We haven't yet found a way to improve the sound quality; reference.

That screenshot is for Four Swords.

I enjoyed Crysis, but I love wide open spaces with lots of sniping opportunities. That's why I loved the first half of FarCry. Not many games give you the big areas like those two games.

Yeah, he was definitely talking out of his ass. 80fps max in the least stressful environments and situations maybe, and I doubt with any sort of AA.

It takes crossfired 5800s (or a 5970) to average 60+ fps @ 1680x1050 & 4xAA, and you're pretty much guaranteed to have minimum frame rates much lower than that.

It won't be for at least another year or so before a single GPU can make that game its bitch.
