I left my computer on for the night. When i came back, i was at the log-on screen. When I opened my username, it said my system has recovered from a serious error. I tried to go into desktop properties, because my windows theme was messed up, but each time, it kept saying Run a DLL has encountered a problem and needs to close. I tried to restart my computer, but then it wouldn't let me log on at all, and would just freeze up when i tried to. I did system resotre, and it seemed fine, but my display properties still don't work

Do you think this is a virus? And if so, any ideas how to cure it?

I am running XP, and have CA Etrust Antivirus

One way to find out if it's a virus; RUN A SCAN with the latest definitions. If it is a virus, find out the name and go looking for removal options. www.sarc.com is the place to be for info on viruses.

if it wasn't a virus, is there any way to fix it so that it lets me go into diplay properties? This is the exact error message:

Run a DLL as an App has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconveniance.

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.

For more information about this error click here.

I clicked for more info about the error, and this is what it said:

Error Signature-----------------------------------------------
AppName: rundll32.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.0 ModName: Unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset:00000000

I really need some help with this, it's important that i get my computer back to normal...:(

Wrong forum, but, hold down f8 during boot, boot safe mode. If desperate, try last known good.

Ya, i'm running Window Blinds

Change the skin, if that doesn't do anything. Try the default Luna or classic skin. If it works, I think you know what's borked ;)
