I just got my Alpha Pep66 today and cranked up my new 700E to 933. I had it at 933 with the stock HSF but it would crash while acessing the D: drive. It turns out the heatsink wasn't the problem, I had errors on my D: drive. After running scan disk and defragging, the drive is working fine at 933 and 1.65V
With my Alpha on at 1.65 and 933, I am only at 30 degrees C, room temp is 70F. I have been playing some Q3 and ran 3DMark 200 a few times. This heatsink rocks!!
I ordered this CPU from mwave after debating with myself to just order a cC0 from compuwiz1 for a few more bucks. I guess I got lucky. Going to try for a gig here after I run some more tests.

This is what is on the chip if anybody cares.

You may want to try reversing the fan on your Alpha. Alpha states that having the fan blow out is best, but I tried mine both ways and with the fan blowing down gives me a better result. just a couple degrees, but every little bit helps.
enjoy!

Crank that thing up. It's a good thing you went for the Pep66, because in the long run you should get higher with it.

Good luck, keep us posted. :)

Well I'm booting most of the way into windows at 1001mhz and 1.65V Adding more voltage doesn't seem to do much so it's probably my generic ram. Running great at 980 and 1.65 volts.
I assembled the Alpha with the fan blowing in. The instructions showed it blowing out but I remember reading somewhere that they work better blowing in and help cool (or heat?) the chipset. After several hours at this speed it looks like 35C is where it's going to stay.
By the way, this chip is from the Phillepines, can anybody tell me what week it by the above info?

It's weird, they only go up a couple degrees. The highest I have seen after playing Q3 online for an hour or so is 37C. I have the old style Elight 7237 that I modified a bit to get better air flow thru. This Alpha heat sink is incredible, and I can't even hear it with the fan that comes with the PEP66 kit.

Don't know about the cost of the pep66 compared to the chrome orb designed for socket A. I use the chrome orb on my 700E and get idle temps at 27C and 36C at full load (3-4 hours of gruelling play). Believe the chrome is cheaper by a wide margin.
Just noticed that my cpu is a week 30 Q030A040 SL45Y which means that week 30 must be a good batch since mine went effortlessly to 933.
