I've been playing ME for pretty much two whole days non-stop (going through and doing every single side mission and reading/listening to every bit of additional information).

Anyway, I have completed almost everything else, but there are still two sub-missions showing as incomplete from the Noveria mission. I went through and destroyed the Hot Labs with the plasma nuke, or whatever it was, but I never encountered Matriarch Benezia and I also never made the cure (I read about this on a walkthrough).

I have gone through every square inch of Noveria multiple times now and nothing new has come up, so I really have no idea what to do. I am ready to move ahead to the final stages of the game, but I can't because of this. Anyone have suggestions? I've read through some walkthroughs and nothing has helped.

I feel as if I have glitched out here, which sucks because I'd rather not start again right now, I want to finish it first.

If anyone has any thoughts on how to help, I'd really appreciate it.

The cure is a side-mission. You talk to a doc after you leave the tram at Peak-15 and enter the "settlement". He's past an Elcor, to the left, a bit downstairs. Talk to him, go back to the sergeant you met when entering the settlement and ask for approval. Then just back up and turn left before the Elcor - you should enter another area of the settlement, with a crazy Volus. The lab is just behind him (talk to the guard and he will open the door).

Matriarch Benezia is actually a major plot point. There's no way you could have missed her. She's after the settlement I wrote about above. There are two ways to get to her - either fight your way through the settlement guards or talk to the Volus about a backway through maintenance. You need to fight her in order to finish Noveria, I have no idea how you managed to leave the place without doing so... She's Liara's mother btw, might be nice story-wise to have Liara with you.

Something is wrong I didn't know you could destroy the hotlabs before you talked to her and did other things.......:-/ I did it several times and so did my friends. Weird.

I have Liara with me, have for a long time now actually.

I did talk to the Doctor earlier on, but now he is gone, along with everyone else from the Rift. I talked to the Volus as well, which started the side, backwards entry mission (still showing as incomplete as I ended up fighting my way through).

Sounds like I'm screwed. :(

If you blew the hot labs you can't complete the cure side-quest, as all of the Peak-15 personnel is loyal to Benezia. But it's no big deal.

Go back to the maintenance tunnel and once you're past it, there are two ways you can take:

1. To Matriarch Benezia
2. Back to the settlement

At first I went back to the settlement too. I missed the door to Benezia and was running around in circles.

Here, check out those two maps:

1. First level, with the tram, Volus, maintenance tunnel and Benezia - http://www.gamebanshee.com/masseffect/walkthrough/noveriariftstationlowerlevel.php
2. Second level, the settlement with the Elcor, the doctor, etc - http://www.gamebanshee.com/masseffect/walkthrough/noveriariftstationmainlevel.php

I think you are onto the answer!

Thanks man, I'm going to give that a shot as soon as I finish my steak. :awe:

I swear I scoured every room and ran into a couple of locked doors, but I'll give it another try.

Well, download Zaeed, he's free. Shadow Broker is best played right *after* the suicide mission (if you don't screw up and actually die), so don't tempt yourself by buying it yet. ;)

Only way that'll happen is if you forget to do a large chunk of the game.

Dang, Keith you busted right through that game pretty quick. Hope you enjoyed it, as I know you were on the fence with this vs FO3.

I can't sit down for long periods of gaming so I'm still lollygagging along in ME. Having fun with it though :) .

Yeah, I freaking loved the game and played the crap out of it the past couple of days; I think I completed about 98% of the content too. Felt a hell of a lot like KOTOR and a bit like Deus Ex which are both great games, so yeah, loved the game.

So not worth paying for any of the DLC; just grab the free one and move along?

The only thing I missed in me1 was the stupid keeper scanning mission, I couldn't find one 1 guy, and the other I couldn't scan because of that damn vi thingy. Oh well maybe when I do the game on insanity.

If you're referring to ME, Bring Down the Sky was released for free on PC and is worth playing; the others probably aren't.

The DLC in ME2 is generally much better... Off the top of my head, Zaeed, Kasumi, Overlord, and Lair of the Shadow Broker (at least) are worth playing

For me Lair of the Shadow Broker was the most fun DLC. But IMO do it middle-game. Overlord had a nice story, but it has no relation to the main plot at all. Stolen Memories (extra team member, Kasumi) is fun and challenging, especially if you do it early on.

You will get Zaeed (The Price of Revenge) for free, a nice side-mission with an extra team member, Zaeed. But I hardly used him actually... Firewalker is weak, almost no story and the hover tank is made from paper I think... This DLC is more arcade'y though, it wasn't that bad in the end (and it's for free). The equipment and appearance DLCs you may as well skip for your first playthrough. The extra guns from one of the DLCs are kinda overpowered and would ruin the challenge in many of the game's challenging moments.

So, grab what's free and install it + get Kasumi, Overlord and Shadow Broker. And do everything before the suicide mission - I think that would be the best way to have a complete story :)

What class did you play?

Be warned that Adept is by far the strongest in ME1 but needs some specific tactics in ME2, particularly at higher difficulties. Bizarrely, it's probably Sentinel that's the strongest in the sequel. Also, Vanguard goes from a mediocre hybrid class to a totally different and totally cool biotics package.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'm going to grab all those now but I'm going to try and hold off on starting this game until the weekend since I feel I could end up staying up all night playing it like I did with the first game. :D

Not sure the name of class I played; just the basic assault/soldier class, which is generally what I choose when playing a new game since I never really get the nuances of other classes until far later in the game. Presumably I just start from scratch again, so I'll take a look a closer look at the classes to see what may be best/most fun.

KT

Edit: so do I buy this through the Bioware website, then move it to a Steam folder somewhere? :hmm:

Yeah, buy/grab (the free ones) on Bio site. The DLC installer should detect your Steam game install.

Oh, you should get Bring Down the Sky free for ME1, too... Did you play that? Nice palate-cleanser between the two big games. The current installer for this also detects Steam versions.

Haha, yeah, I actually hated both of the human squad members. When it was time to make the decision on who should survive, I just wanted to abandon them both. :D

So I just beat Mass Effect and figured I'd throw my 2 cents in here rather than start a new thread. Spoilers to follow.

For the most part it was pretty good, but I didn't get that involved with the characters or story. I didn't realize the characters have side quests, mostly because I couldn't be bothered to go down and talk to them on the ship; it was much more convenient to stay at the galaxy map and begin a new mission.
Basically, I didn't get attached to or despise any of the characters. Probably my fault, but I feel like there could've been more character interaction during missions, rather than making me go out of my way for it. On the flip side, this made the Virmire choice much easier. There was no doubt I'd keep Kaiden, since he offered both electronics and decryption in one package (I was a soldier), not to mention some nice magic powers (I forget the term for it). Ashley was kind of a wasted squad choice, since she didn't offer anything I didn't, didn't bring anything I needed.

I didn't find dialogue options to be that great either. Sure, you had to make some choices, but it was pretty obvious which were "good" or "bad", or what the results would be. In this sense, I liked the Witcher more. In that game, it wasn't very clear what the right choice (or even best choice) was, and you didn't really know what effects your choices might have further down the line. I guess, it felt more true to life in that everything wasn't cut and dried.
Another qualm I had is that my vision of Shepard didn't seem to be viable. I wanted a Shepard who "couldn't care less" but I didn't see dialogue options that reflected that attitude. Again, this may be my fault, as I tended towards paragon choices...mainly since I figured that it would be nice if I could talk my way out of fights and save some hassle on my end.

The story was decent, but nothing to write home about. Maybe it's because the presentation seemed cheesy more than once. I dunno. For whatever reason it didn't really drag me in.

Overall, I think my biggest issue with Mass Effect is that I felt disconnected from it. Neither characters, dialogue, or storyline really resonated with me. The game play itself was probably what kept me most interested. I think if I could combine the mechanics of Mass Effect with the dialogue and plot from the Witcher, that would be a terrific game.

That being said, I had already bought Mass Effect 2, so I'll be starting that up next and see how things go.

I was really in tune with my character and that was all of the story I needed, though I did complete pretty much every side quest and talked to my companions while on the ship quite a bit, so most of them felt pretty flushed out to me by the end of the game. The story was decent enough for what it was, like any of Cameron's cheesy sci-fi flicks; fun, but cliche and kind of cheesy.

Not sure specifically what it was that hooked me so much; it was just fun gameplay and I my character really grabbed me, so I wanted to see where everything would go. Good times.
