I had a similar incident with an item I recently sold on eBay. The winning guy was from Brazil and he wanted me to ship to an unverified address in Miami. He also wanted some customs note declaring $25 value even though it was more close to $200. So I said no, and sent a second chance offer to the 2nd highest bidder.

1. This is obviously a scam, so no need to give real advice like "ONLY ship to verified address...PERIOD."

2. You actually shipped FIRST before you got your money? Wow...even noobs know to receive money first, THEN ship.

3. NOOB!

By the way, when he said this : "i'm presently serving our beloved nation here in Iraq with the United Nation..." you should have been alerted because the UN is having no part of our little shenanigans in Iraq. It's not supported by the UN nor is the UN supplying any troops. It's just us and a few select buddies of ours having all the fun over there. There's no way he's attached, directly or indirectly, to the UN.

It's too bad that ebay really doesn't care about what happens, as long as they make their money.

Pretty pretty please, let Google create a good competitor... Goo-bay?

Yeah, it's a shame when 99% of them ruin it for the legit 1%. :p

I just had an auction won by a scammer and ebay has been beyond useless in resolving the problem. I keep getting canned "how to use ebay" emails back. Good luck.

Tell them you only take cash and they can mail you the cash and then you'll mail them the phone.

I just do all my listings stating that I only ship within the US just so people like this don't bother bidding.

i relisted the item and demanded immediate payment, so i think that should take care of a few things.

My listings always state that too but it doesn't stop them.

How do they keep winning it, through Buy It Now? Would getting rid of that stop them?

not sure if that will work if they use a phished paypal account and do a chargeback once you ship the item out.

These scammers always want you to ship RIGHT AWAY. So they have the item when you get stuck for a bad payment.

Change your ebay prefs in your account to US ship only, and require immediate payment from a verified paypal acct. You can set all kinds of things in the prefs area to keep scammers from even bidding in the first place. Just do it.

Also, scammers are now sending a fake paypal email saying YOU HAVE FUNDS. But when you go to you paypal, no payment was made. Its a fake paypal email. Paypal NEVER sends emails saying YOU HAVE FUNDS. Don?t fall for that.

Ebay is a scammers paradise today. And ebay could care less cause THEY are making $$$, while YOU get scammed. They just don?t care.
Notice how lately ebay raised fee's, and now require you to use their shipping tools, while they DO NOTHING to help protect you from scammers.

I'm just waiting for the fed gov to close this racket called ebay down for good. Selling hot merchandise, scammers galore, and no real attempt to stop this on ebays part. Why? They are making big $$$, they don?t care about crime and scammers.

This very same thing happened to me a fwe months back. I list an item, it sells immediately and I get that stoopid e-mail. I tell the guy to fvck off and I relist my item.

Same thing, it sells 'almost' immediately, and I get another e-mail. I'm like WTF??????

I b|tched to eBay about this and they refunded me my listing fees. I have not been to eBay since! Thing is, they still charged me for some fees. Well, they can go suck ass with the Nigerian scammers out there:p

I know that the Nigerian thing is always a scam, but are the scammers actually based in Nigeria? I posted on petfinders.com for someone to adopt my dog and I got like 30 freaking emails from people wanting me to ship my dog there! How does it actually work?
