Great beginner cam. I started my quest in photography with a superzoom too. But don't be expecting spectacular image quality.
Canon did make the perfect camera, it's called the 5D MKII.
Ask the guys in the photography subforum, they seem to know their shit about compact and ultrazoom cameras.i don't know jack shit about cameras though, that one in the OP is a really good one? i've always been happy w/my canon point and shoots.
That's actually pretty close spec wise to my camera with the exception of the batteries and zoom.
Mine uses a proprietary li-on batter and is 12x optical.
But it's a P&S and pockatable.
What camera would that be?

Awesome camera IMO.
It uses a lite version of the same codec that blu-ray uses to get 2 hours of 720P HD video onto 16GB SD card, double that with a 32GB.
Takes great pics also.
I'm very happy with mine as well.
Just take note of some beeping issue with certain memory cards when recording video in silent rooms.
