new 2nd floor for the house or an 07 beemer... damn the wife has a hand in this decision. 🙁

Oh dude, I'm a car guy myself, but that shouldn't even be up for debate.

2nd floor on house.

Not trying to hijack thr OP's thread, but how do you add a 2nd floor to house?

he says new 2nd floor. implying there's an old one. gut and redo probably.

saying you buy something 'new' in no way implies there is an 'old' one wtf?

if i were to buy a new house, i could have rented an apt, owned a trailer, and in no way implies i had an old house.

1) Cut exterior walls in attic.

2) Jack up roof (literally, this is how it's done).

3) Insert short "pony walls" to raise second floor high enough to add rooms.

4) Lower roof onto new second floor.

5) Add exterior facing and interior walls.

So basically you're building half of a house. Wouldnt it be easier to just move out into a bigger house? Im not sure how expensive this sort of project might cost, but it sounds expensive. I would rather put the money towards a larger house.
Geez I didn't think it would raise such a commotion...

2nd Floor replacement = $105k
sell current house / buy new bigger house = $200k++ (additional cost)

either way = no money left over for: '07 BMW X5 @ $55k 🙁

At any rate, I'd rather buy the car and pay it off for the next 2-3 years and start saving again rather than get a loan towards $105k and have to pay that off for longer... which in addition means no new car in sight.
