 You probably have better case airflow, lower room temperature, running at higher fan speed? The ATi TrayTools cube doesn't take up the full screen I believe. Try loading up MSI Afterburner GPU Burn-in test for 10 min full-screen. Mine stays at 72-74*C in that test at 58-61% fan speed. That test would be far more demanding than a game and if an overclock is unstable it completely locks up in MSI AB.

I put the fan profile to automatic and did a 10 minute kombustor test, I normally run a custom profile. I ended on 70 degrees celsius, but I'm pretty sure it throttled down on three occasions as the temperature dropped by 5 degrees in an instant and the frame did a hiccup. This has yet to happen in any game though.

Ya, that's what it comes down to. The best stress test in the world may not be reflective of your specific usage patterns. So if the most GPU intensive applications you run are your games, then for your own purposes, you don't need to pass some of the more intensive GPU tests. Generally speaking it's a lot easier to have a videocard pass gaming tests than for it to be able to function @ 99% GPU load usage and VRM stress tests for 24/7 365 days a year operation. Of course the latter scenario doesn't apply to 99.9% of people. I think my main point was that games, while GPU intensive, still don't fully load the GPU to the max as other programs do. GPU usage outside of games is a pretty niche segment though.

I have a weird question..when you order these cards from newegg, do they come wrapped? Mine didn't the box was a little beat up but still sealed with a little circular tape. I open it up and the card is sitting in styrofoam inserts. Most of the unboxing videos of other cards I see on youtube are in a sealed bag.

Its huge and I looked at the PCB, it has a small white sticker on there that says QC Passed with a green, yellow, red and blue circle on there. Is that normal?

Should I ship it back and ask for another one? I'm afraid it was open or used. I have no idea when the case is coming but it should be here next week.

Everything seems fine. When I got my card from Newegg, it also came in a cardboard box with white styrofoam inserts and the box was slightly dented due to that style of packaging. That's Newegg for you. They should use air bubble bags like Amazon instead.

The safety checks are normal. Many cards have those stickers. The actual box in which the card came though was a HIS coloured box and it was sealed with a clear circular tape you said. That's fine! That's how GPUs ship from Newegg. Check that all the accessories are present.

Depends on manufacturer I believe. AT user Dennilfloss just got a His 7850, here is what I'm assuming is his unboxed pic:

Pop into his thread, maybe you can find out how his card was shipped to him. I recently ordered an Asus GTX 680 DC II, box wasn't wrapped. My Visiontek 7970 wasn't wrapped. My Gigabyte GTX 680 wasn't wrapped. All had that circular tape, but all cards were in an electrostatic bag.

Yeh its odd how newegg seems to just throw stuff in a box with paper being stuffed in the box. I remember when I had received my MSI twin frozr 560Ti last year, it was sealed with saran wrap outside the box and packaged really well.

The actual box itself is an HIS box that you see on the website. That's the only part that was dinged up. Otherwise card is clean on both sides.

Its massive! Has very nice cooling pipes, they seem of good quality and are pretty heavy. There are two fans, thin wavy blades, seem pretty sharp. No coupon for the 3 free games so I will contact HIS since they have that promotion still up on their website.

I just checked the other thread, looks like that's how these cards come packaged, no wrap just in foam inserts. Price on newegg is back up to $449 so well see how it goes.

My case is in PA, 4 hours away! But too bad UPS does not ship on Saturdays. I'm off tuesday so I hope i get it by then.

Well I emailed HIS. The Sleeping Dogs comes with the 7870 and 7950. Either way I'll be spending more time tweaking the card before playing any games really. I'm anxiously waiting for the new Hitman!
