Ive been on this same win98 install for like 2 years, ive been through 4 motherboards, 5 or 6 CPU's, all kinds of drives and harware, 3 different video cards, never reinstalled win98 fresh, had some dual boot Win2k going for a while but somehow they are gone.

The other day i started having some problems with my computer, i was getting ticked at the setup and was talking to a guy on AIM about how i need to do a clean install.

My computer was down for like 2 days, which is super suck cuz i do RC5, and i cant stand not having any and all available CPU's cracking at all times. My hard drive was so fragged beyond defragging thats its a joke. UT was starting to lag and take forever to load cuz its so fragged out.

For some weird reason it boots up today and starts actin all friendly, everything runs a tad faster, the usual errors arent there anymore. Weird, I started relaxing. I swear this OS is trying to save itself from extinction (not Windows 98 the product, but this very particular install is what im talkin 'bout, yo) I almost feel grateful for the "Effort" its trying to make me happy again, i think me and this install have been through a lot these past 2 years, man, must be thousands of applications weve run together, this one hard drive and this one OS install has not been reformated, or reinstalled, EVER, its the only single piece of hardware ive had since i very first got my own computer back in 98 or whatever the hell year it was i got this thing.
Maybe it was pissed at me, maybe i did something to get it pissed off at me, (played around with some other OS's maybe?) but i think maybe its forgiving me now, i think it understands im sorry. I think it senses im willing to make things better without killing it. I respect that.

I think im really crazy

yep, i admit it

I had a few installs that did this too,... but alas they didn't like me as much and eventually started showing me no respect, so i had to format them... = P

no train ain't drinkin, I had an install of 98 that was like super old, and cloned it, and was actually runinng the same masacred registry on 2 machines, and they'd been thru many mobo's and drives... I whiped out one ver of it recently, and set up a dual boot with win2k and a fresh 98se, but now I've given away the other clone, and it knows I no longer use it, and it's in its death throes, later I'll be having a few drinks in memory of it.. ***sniff

That's nothing...I know someone who hasn't done a clean install since 1995. This is no joke..went from Win95 and upgraded to Win98 without a format. His registry is so bloated it's unbelievable.

if I ever had an install for that long and it eventually gave me too much trouble, I wouldn't be able to format it...I would take the HD out and just keep it. Yeah, I'm insane too. :p

well thats what the deal was with mine, i think it had originally been a 95 over 3.11, I've got it as a ghost cd someplace, not dead, its the undead ,ready to arise again... nd bring me back to the days of yore.
