so out of the blue all 5 partitions on my secondary HD get their master file tables corrupted.

i replace the drive and decide maybe I should install a clean version of windows. now I have a partition on my main HD that is corrupted... happened as soon as I got into windows after the reinstall.

if I didnt have bad luck, id have no luck at all.

any guesses to what the hell could be going on with my drives?

i just got some new ATA 133 cables for the sucks too 🙁

First thing I'd do is go crank up the memory voltage to 2.6-2.7 volts instead of AUTO. That sort of jives with the HDD corruption symptoms.

why? im pretty sure its at 2.7 right now, but why would a lower voltage cause that?

I think AUTO on an NF7-S is 2.5 volts. If your PC3200 is expecting 2.6 volts, then starving it may be the problem. And if your PSU or mobo are sagging the voltages a little, then 2.7V might be what gets the job done in real life. You can do some Memtest86 testing to see how it does under a basic no-load situation, perhaps.

but how does that corrupt a hard drive?

Voltage-starved memory --> corrupted data --> which then is written to hard drive = goofed-up hard drive. That's my concept, anyway, I'm not an IC engineer or anything 🙂 Can you think of any other likely contributing factors, such as installing some new software that might've had a Trojan Horse in it, or someone visited and plugged their worm-infested laptop into your router, or ???
