I met a tea partier once, and I said to him that many people think tea baggers are all racist. He told me that was not true, since only a few of them run marathons :)

I think the tea party has alot of really good points... I think the core argument they make has some validity. Unfortunately they surround themselves and combine their efforts with every other looney toon whose agenda overlaps even a little bit. They also got so melodramatic with everything they do... good vs evil... liberty or death... yada yada yada.. (Which is the OPs original point, that I agree with 100%).

You know who it really reminds me of? The anti-war movement (Afghanistan and Iraq)... every leftist organization and cause in the western hemisphere coming together on one overlapping issue. You end up with every other nutbag cause with their signs and bullshit intermingled with the central message.

It's sad really... because I remember so many now-teabaggers complaining about exactly this... and now they're doing the same garbage.

The fact we have the left in this forum having meltdowns over the Tea Party tells me they are doing something right.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Earth to FNE, in case you fail to note reality, its the tea baggers who are melting down the GOP. In 2008, the mai stream GOP leadership proved they were out of step with their own electorate, when it was John McCain and not a Fred Thompson GOP type that won the GOP nomination for Prez. All the rest of the GOP tried to run to the right of GWB, and the GOP electorate choose GWB's greatest critic instead.

Now here we are two years later, the GOP main stream leadership is just as far out of touch with reality, the tea party movement is even further out of touch with reality, us liberal democrats are taking the time to warn the GOP zanies on this forum on not painting your self into a corner, and only fools like you, FNE, could then think we are trying reverse Psychology games with you. But maybe we are trying reverse reverse Psychology games with you, please Briar Fox, don't throw yourself into the tea bag dumpster. Its a toxic waster dump.

Hey Lemon party, you wanna talk about out of touch? Its Obama and the Democrats. You are losing the House on November 2, and possibly the Senate. Take a few minutes and think about just why that is.

Just curious.. have you guys thought about why the GOP lost the White House, the House and the Senate in 08?

Of course, it's the age-old cycle. The basis of our republic. We basically just keep switching parties until even the most corrupt politicians realize they should probably do what we say if they want to keep their jobs. Tea Party's already ousted a number of incumbents. Not nearly enough IMO, but it's a start.

Isn't it obvious? Bush was very unpopular and the country wasn't doing hot economically. Seems pretty cut and dry.

Pretty much replace Bush with Obama and you have the reasons why Democrats are going to get destroyed in November.

I wish that were true... but I think what really happens... is corrupt politicians come up with cooler campaign slogans by which to get elected....

I am way ahead of you Nick, its very possible that an American electorate that demands instant gratification will indeed vote democrats out. But then, Nick, when the republirats get into control, what happens then? The American people will still want instant gratification, and when GOP policies flop far faster than they did in 2008, what happens then Nick?????????????????

We are finally then going to get a 1932 type situation, where almost all of the American electorate rejected everything GOP for decades!!!!!!!!!!!

You see Nick, I play chess and evidently you don't because you are probably unable to think more than a half a move ahead. In chess any idiot can make a move, but if its not a wise move, you will promptly get your head handed to you as someone else eats your lunch. It may take a while, but if you eat the poison, the poison will get you more likely later than immediately.

Its my country too Nick, and I will not let you and your ilk to ruin my country. I may not be able to stop you, but take some comfort that the greater American electorate will wise up when your policies flop.

It will be interesting to see. I'd actually vote republican if it weren't for their dumb-shit attitude towards religion and gay people. But I can't really allow financial responsibility to justify bigotry.

I dont agree with their positions on abortion or gay marriage either. They should lay off the religious/social issues, it would really help their party a lot.

Some do, but corruption is revealed sooner or later, especially with large-scale issues like illegal immigration and the economy. The more people that are affected by it, the more action is taken, the less power the political propagandists have. Then eventually we get a competent leader or two and everyone gets fat and happy. Then out of our complacency we get more corruption and the cycle continues.

I think there was a speaker at TED (can't remember his name), his speech was about "ideas having sex" and intellectual exchange, but I remember in the intro he made a nice point. "I was around 40 years ago, and the population was growing too fast, the world wasn't going to be able to support it, it was going to drain the oil, people were going to starve on biblical scales, and a massive nuclear war was going to finish us off... and none of that ever happened. The world's population is near twice what is was, the cold war is over, and gas is marginally higher priced at worst." That's a paraphrase, but the content is accurate IIRC.

I play chess quite a bit and am actually quite good at it. I'd school your ass any day of the week
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We can put your chess claim to the test sometime, but you evidently don't understand anything about politically looking ahead because you understand nothing from American history.

My prediction - Your side will lose the House. lol

You're reading too much into your own bullshit.

Ask a random person about congress: They hate Congress.
Ask that same person about their rep: They love them.

There will be a few seats change in the Republican's favor. Gridlock will increase, but there still won't be enough votes to eliminate taxes on the wealthy, invade Iran, or kill Medicare. And even if I'm totally wrong and the Tea Party sweeps, a little lobbyist money will ensure that nothing changes.

Regardless of what happens, we're due for a new bubble so Obama will win a second term.

The race I'm watching is the IL Governer's race. I can't wait to see which brand of shit we end up with in the office.

Ahh, so you're not a social conservative after all - your position on circumcision in the other thread had me fooled.

You really haven't been paying attention to polls or reading the news. It is unlikely democrats keep the house, very unlikely. Even the DNC has given up on some of their own incumbent candidates because there isn't a chance they'll win.

Polls are pretty well meaningless right now. The primaries ended. Now, we'll get to see who the candidates really are and some of the Tea Party candidates are pretty scary. Let's look at polls in about 4 weeks and then we'll see.

I note this whole flame war was started by irishScott saying, "I swear if I hear one more grandiose incantation of the Tea Party I'm going to"

What pray tell irishScott will you do when you hear more tea bag stupidity? Well there is always the vomit all over yourself strategy, best get your clothes in the Washing machine quick before various stomach acids in vomit eats holes in your clothes. Then there is the cockroach exterminator strategy, simply toss a hand grenade into the next tea bag rally, run, remove the tea bag infestation, thereby increasing the collective IQ of the country. But no, that won't work, not only too many infestations of tea baggers, but the government will put you in iron cages and feed you bad food.

God grant me the serenity to hope, if I suffer these tea bag fools gladly or madly, they will soon pass, like the common cold. Doctor irishScott, I promise not to call you in the morning if I do not feel better, but I suspect we both need something more than just two aspirins.

Losing the Senate lol. O'Donnell fixed that for ya. Now that she's a, he, he, serious candidate, all her nutbag speaches are being spewed across the airwaves as I type. Good luck with that.

Add to that Nevada, should have been a shoe in for the Repugs, but the wingnuts got their primary candidate and it's neck and neck now. People in this country aren't as extreme as you think.
