Seriously. Yes the tea party is around, yes they're making a difference, but honestly I'm sick of hearing them praised like the GOP messiah. In every thread that even remotely covers the midterm elections we get so many "when the people take back their government" or "when history is written" or "it is time" or "when the corrupt walls of Obama come a tumblin down" I'm expecting someone to hack P&N so "onward christian soldiers marching as to war..." plays whenever the word "Tea Party" appears on screen.

To those of you who do it: You. Sound. Stupid. And I'm that much less likely to take your post seriously. The tea party is a political movement like any other. It's not a religion, and it's hardly a savior of anything. You know those Obama supporters you made fun of last election for treating Obama like the messiah? Guess who you sound like. Think about that, and think before you post. Pretty please with tea leaves on top? :p

Tea Party is mostly full of idiots doing idiotic things. If one good thing is to come out of this, its that the Tea Party becomes a 3rd major party. Then we might be able to get some other parties up in there and break up the stagnation we've had in our political scene for fucking decades.

The Tea Party is a one note wonder. The deficit is too big, cut government spending. Clinton did that and no modern Republican has. Obama got a recession and is forced to spend to save the country. Now is not the time to fix the deficit. But that time has to come. It won't be done by Republicans who aim is to transfer wealth to the top, and it won't be done by socialist liberals who think people who can't wipe their ass can use money they get for free. Only progressives who understand that the disparity between the rich and the poor has to be addressed by enabling the poor to function out of self interest and get noting without some effort of their own will be able to save this country.

Neither liberals nor conservatives want progressives to succeed. The result is that the nation is going psycho as in Tea Party and we're fucked.

You're calm because you in your parent's basement at 45 years old and they have you in a padded room with a nice cozy jacket on. :)

The Tea Party may have grand ideals but the execution of those ideals isnt possible in the real world..

I am a fiscal conservative in how I run my life and approach finances. I have been a member of the republican party as far back as 1979. The mainstream republican party has moved so far to the right of me-and many like me btw- that I am labeled a leftist socialist because I advocate for the poor and like programs that help the downtrodden get back on their feet.

I have asked this question of many so called tea partiers... Ok we get you want smaller government. So what substantive action will you take to make the government smaller? You can rail on bailouts and handouts to the poor and wealth redistribution but the facts are the majority of Tea partiers like social security. They like wars, they like 70-80 percent of what the actual federal government does for them. Talking about shutting down the government-joe miller- and talking about privatizing social security out in the open will be so unpopular they will get laughed out of Washington.

They can rail about bailouts but the two biggest ones were reletively cheap and have almost been payed back in full-banks-automotive- and in a few cases actually made money.

If you look at the tea party its essentially the same as its been for the last 300 years... White people afraid that the world is changing too quickly around them. The southern strategy has stoked this fire and the fire always becomes more visible during an economic downturn.. The xenophobia and fear are but symptoms of the malaise of people being out of work and looking for a scapegoat...

We are in a paradigm shift from a majority of white people in the US to white people becoming the minority.. Within the next 30 years Latin Americans will outnumber white people in this country and they are terrified of this fact.

We can agree in principle we need to lower the deficits... So how does wanting tax cuts for rich people jibe with the fact that that tax cut will cost more than the stimulus when its all said and done with?

The tea party has already been userped by the social conservatives with their basic agenda to make everyone in their image.... How is that freedom?

I personally would LOVE a reduction of 20 - 30% of the federal budget. Why? Because pork has become prolific and many, many federal departments are superfluous to the well being of this nation. I would start with eliminating the Department of Education, a job for the States. In fact, many federal departments and programs, like environmental protection, usurp or duplicate state programs.

Social engineering at the cost of huge national debt is not feasible or effective. Keep a safety net going, like unemployment insurance and medal subsidies for basic needs, but it is time to turn away from the nanny state which has become so popular for keeping pols in office and their constituents more destitute in the end.

We need to reduce cost and tighten the belt of federal spending significantly. Prioritize national defense and infrastructure and get out of the business of private industry.

Actually they are doing us a great favor. Now that not only the left, but the independents understand the absolute nutiness and simplemindedness of the Teapartiers, we/they are waking up that they have no solutions. We/they may be pissed off specifically about the economy and jobs, but they are not going down that road.

The polls are starting to show the shift. I just hope it not too little too late.

Since defense is one of the biggest cash cows of the budget and full of corruption and pork spending, and we have more planes, ships, etc. than all of rest of the world combined, Why is it that no one in the tea party talks about defense cuts? Only programs that benefit the poor or aged seem to get referred to as unnecessary.

It's one of the primary responsibilities of the federal government. Entitlement programs are not.

Meh. All that needs to be done is for the Tea Party candidates to talk. When Granny hears that they want to cancel Social Security and Medicare, she won't vote for them. When nonfundamentalists hear about their stances on religion in public schools, science, etc. They won't vote for them either.

And hating gay people and fretting over masturbation will really bring in that young people vote!
