I suggestion For Sale/Trade

Whenever I go to sell something I always search the For Sale/Trade forum to see if I can get an idea of what something might be worth (I check other sources as well).

I find it frustrating when the price is removed from the thread and replaced with "Sold". To be honest, I think I have done this myself.

I am thinking it might be a good rule for the sellers to leave the sold price in the thread, so others can have an idea of the value of the item at that point and time. If not a rule, maybe it could simple be an etiquette suggestion.

Does anyone else agree with this? Just wondering.

I am not sure how that can be enforced as the members and threads are many and the FS/T mods are few. I am open to suggestions.

The actual sale price is a private matter between the seller and the buyer.

And that is not being disputed, but many list an item with a sale price then later remove it or mark it as "$SOLD". Instead, they could leave general price for everyone to get a ballpark idea of the going rate.

To be honest, I never really thought what a pain enforcement would be. Making it a matter of etiquette rather than a rule is probably the way to go. As far as privacy goes, I just don't understand that argument. As a seller, you have to post a price to begin with. The only reason I could see for wanting to keep a price secret is because something strange or unethical is going on. Although I suppose there could be reasons I am just not thinking of.

Maybe having a separate dedicated price check forum would be the answer but since price checks were eliminated that seems unlikely.

Happy holidays everyone!

I understand the concern for the final price to be private. If I list something at $75 but someone PM's me an offer at 50 and in a rash move I accept, I wouldn't want to advertise my prices could be swayed that much. I also see no problem leaving the listing price in place though even after the sale.

maybe put this in the sticky with the rules but make it clear that it is not a rule.
