I suggest you read this before going with Crossfire

No profile at all for Battlefield 3, even if you try to force it manually.

No crossfire support with AA turned on in Crysis 2, plus *horrible* minimum FPS across the board.

This is completely unacceptable IMO as these are not even new releases.

I know adam the giant was going to get a pair of 7850s. I really hope it works out ok for him. This article has turned me off of ever getting a Crossfire setup.

AMD's driver teams need a major uphaul. It seems they recruit the worst ones for their driver team.

With Crossfire, can you use the second card for AA if there is no crossfire support like you can with SLI?

2nd Card will arrive tomorrow.

I have a store with a 680 in stock locally. Guy says nobody has even looked at it.

I honestly thought about it, but decided will still give CF a try.

I crossfired a 5970 and 5870 in the past and was happy. I'll put my faith in driver updates from AMD.

Do they hire or just outsource?

I can't imagine they would outsource on such a large, core component of their business.

They have, however, been doing what seems to be some "restructuring" lately. Hopefully they can get everything figured out in due time, although they've had plenty of it already...

I know AMDs support is typically sub par. But come on, BF3 has been out for what, 8 months? And they cant get a profile out for you guys? It was only one of the biggest releases in 2011.

Crossfire definitely works in bf3 and crysis 2. Not sure what they're doing wrong, but I get 90-99% gpu usage across both GPU's in both games.

All the crysis games have a profile, as does bf3.

BF3:

Crysis 2:

I don't know what they're doing wrong, but i've played both of these games extensively with crossfire working. BF3 had a profile at release as well. So I don't know whats up with their shit, but they screwed something up.

This is only true for the 7000 series of video cards. I'm running a pair of 6950's in crossfire. It definitely works as my fps in BF3 on Ultra 1920x1080 stays at a smooth 60fps with dips into the 50's during intense scenes in Karkand. If CFX was not working properly, no way it would give me such an experience. Plus, Catalyst App Profiles were released for BF3 way back when it came out. Again, this problem is probably only for the 7000 series.

Great link.

IMHO this definitely pushes some sales to the NV side, if all else is relatively equal with price and performance. It's one thing to have 'not as good' scaling, but quite another to completely lack support for mult-GPUs. NV does a very good job at releasing support for SLI and enhancing SLI performance for AAA titles as time goes on.

Just to be clear; when you are talking about single GPU drivers, I would say NV and AMD are very similar. The above is for multi-GPU setups only.

What a professional review. I have no idea why they would driver force AA in crysis 2, nvidia CP ignores override AA in the game (verify with nvidia inspector) while I presume AMD CCC tries to obey it. Thats pretty confusing because xfire definitely works in those titles.

User error somewhere. If there were no profiles and crossfire didn't work for BF3 and Crysis 2 we would have heard about it from 100 different review sites about 2 days after those games launched.

I know they did lag a little bit on getting BF3 crossfire working, but that was back in October 2011.

There's already 7970cf reviews everywhere with bf3 and its one of the best scaling titles on CF. I don't know if the author at xbit is FOS or doing something wrong, but like I said, its already been tested a billion times by other websites.

Crossfire fails in BF3 only at specific resolutions. 2560x1600 IIRC. And you cannot force AA in Crysis 2 DX11.

No, forced AA doesn't work on nvidia hardware as it is flagged in nvidia inspector to be ignored, forced AA does work through AMD ccc. (at least, I know i've been able to enable SSAA in crysis games) Further, CF does work at 7970CF at 2560 because I play at that resolution.

Its greatly annoying when a reviewer is clueless, testing override AA in crysis 2 WHEN OVERRIDE AA DOESNT WORK on nvidia hardware? Really? I can't believe this guy is so oblivious to completely ignore that override AA did nothing on the nvidia setup. And then makes that the basis of the test. CF does work in both games, shrug. Does the AMD driver team need to step it up? Sure. But this reviewer is also FOS because 1) CF works in those titles and 2) Completely oblivious to override AA NOT WORKING.

What does that have to do with anything? In DX11 you cannot force anything with any card, EOD. And I've played Crysis 2 in DX9 with SGSSAA, thank you very much.

I edited my post, it was BF3 - I didn't remember correctly. They probably fixed it by now.

My aim wasn't to upset you, my aim was to point out the review is doing something wrong because CF works in those titles. But while on that topic... I'm pretty certain that override does work with CCC in DX11 mode, because i've tried it before and I remember seeing a guru3d thread on that very topic with pictures of users having success. Anyway, i'm not going to get in a pissing match with you over that. Thats not even my main point.

Well I used to think Xbitlabs was ok but lately their reviews have been very poor. Although not that interested in CF, I was sure I had seen BF3 scaling before and sure enough for example the hardware.fr 690 review:

http://www.hardware.fr/articles/864-10/benchmark-battlefield-3.html

And sure enough BF3 actually scales better with CF vs SLI. So the Xbitlabs review was either incompetent or malicious.
