(I just wanted to talk about this some more)

My cousin has a toddler who is about 3 years old, on his first day at school Im planning on giving him a pre-algebra book and give my cousin some money (maybe $50) so he could pay his son per right answer.

Another thing, I think the app I was talking about would be especially useful if either the child is away, like at a boarding school or in a foreign exchange program. Or if you're traveling a lot for work.

I mean, you know that's stupid, right? You have to know that's stupid. Is that why you're doing it?
Kids on their first day of school generally can't do simple addition. You yourself are living proof that owning a book does not impart knowledge to the owner of the book.

Don't listen to the naysayers. Only problem I see is starting with something lame like algebra. Calculus is way cooler. Has lots of interesting symbols to grab the kid's attention.

LoL! Things have really changed since I went to school.

edit:
This is a random image I found with the search term "pre-algebra". I was wondering if everything that wasn't algebra was "pre algebra"(it isn't)

Arithmetic could be taught before pre-algebra but pre algebra includes everything in arithmetic such as: addition/subtraction/multiplication/division/fractions/decimals/percentages.

The purpose of pre-algebra is to prepare you for algebra.

maybe you should learn them yourself first before worrying about other people's offspring.

ChatGPT says the term "pre-algebra" became popularized in the 1980s, that might be why some of you are unfamiliar with the term.

Pre-algebra sort of "replaced" arithmetic in schools, it teaches everything you need to know before transitioning to algebra.

Or you are a dunce and don't understand what secondary school means.

  1. I took a pre-algebra class in secondary school
  2. I have two kids born after 1994, who have since graduated from high school
  3. No, no it didn't, they still start with addition and subtraction
  4. Learn to use your own fucking brain, please

Ultimately, the point is: it would be stupid to give your cousin's child a pre-algebra book when they start school, but you're probably going to do it anyway, because that's what you do

Op doesn't know he is a old fart himself. I got my first luxury car when I was 38. He's 31 and still learning basic construction math.

That's what school's for. How about letting the kid be a fucking kid? It's the only time in his life he won't be subjected to the daily grind. Don't fuck it up.

That's why I give fullsize nice candybars for halloween. I don't even like kids, but I liked being one. I try to make it as nice for them as I can before it all goes to shit,

How about this addition&subtraction workbook?

Certainly seems more appropriate, I'm guessing the kid will be 5-6 when he starts.
Still don't think it's a good use of your money though, what would be better would be to just interact with him yourself and go over math in an entertaining way.

If you insist on paying, federal minimum wage per hour of work, but I think the whole idea is stupid. Money makes everything worse.

I just wanted to bring up, the federal minimum wage is $7.25.

If a child gets 6 cents for getting a right answer, and the child does 1 problem every 30 seconds (which I think is pretty feasible) that adds up to $7.25 a hour.

That's only 1 cent more then a nickel.
