You are welcome. I hope we helped.

I'm on a crusade to encourage people to change their attitude about math. I've seen so many people say they hate math or they suck at math. Then I watch them and they get virtually everything is right. But near the end, as they are finishing the problem, they throw up their hands in frustration and quit. Math (especially algebra) just takes time.

There are about 10 things you need to know in all of algebra. You already know them I bet. They are usually taught in the first week of class. The rest of the many years of algebra is just those same 10 rules applied in different ways. If you spend the time and don't give up in frustration, you'll be able to solve any algebra problem without any more classes past the first week, without teachers, and without asking for help. You might need 3 hours for something hypn0tik does in 3 minutes. But that is ok. As you do more algebra, you'll get faster and faster.

It is just how creative you can be in those 10 rules. Algebra should be taught by the art department, not the math department. Because it is just creativity and persistance after the first week.

Exactly. I couldn't have put it better myself. We ALL had to go through the same stage you are going through now. I wish I could say I was born with an Algebra book in my hand, but it took me time and effort to learn it. It'll be the same for you. If you keep practicing and trying new problems, you'll get better and faster.

The most important thing is to ask for help if you need it. Just learn to ignore the trolls and you'll be set. See sig.

Don't feel bad..
I graduated HS 13 years ago. Had Algebra 1 & 2, Trig, Geometry and Calc.. Passed with A's in every class..

fast forward to today. just finished with a 260 level math class.. the course content blew!
It had algebra, geometry, logic, and calc. in it... needless to say... i scored a 50 on the final examination.. still passed the class, barely :)

That's kind of like my high school classes. Algebra, geometry, and statistics in one class... AGSI, AGSII, etc. I passed AGSI with an A my sophomore year, AGSII with a C as I got lazy my junior year, and barely passed the first semester of AGSIII my senior year with a D and dropped the 2nd semester since I only needed 2 full math credits to graduate and I already had them. My teacher wasn't going to let me drop, but I made a scene in front of the class about how I don't like her and she doesn't like me so lets not make things difficult for each other, so she signed the paper. That was during my "I'm 18, you can't tell me what to do" phase. :)
