I used to play alot of UT "back in the day". Not like some addicted WoW player, but I put in my time. I had a playlist I always used to do my weekend drinkin and fraggin routine.

I'm sittin here at work and one of the songs from that playlist I had back then started playin that I hadnt heard in a long time.

I toook a pause and had flashback sof the flak cannon. I loved that flak cannon. Coolest gun ever.

I miss UT. :(

I love UT, but I loved the infiltration mod for unreal and UT more. If i had broadband at home I'd still be playing it.

Flak cannon? You no-skill spamming noob!

Just kidding. The best UT motto I ever heard was "If I can kill you with a flak gun, I'll use a flak gun."

I can relate to the nostalgia, though.

Every once in a while, I'll get an intense desire to bust out a shock combo for great justice.

The smiley face on the flak cannon projectile still warms the cockles of my heart :p

it still has a pretty decent online following. a serv i know gets at least 10 people two nights a week. and its a lot of clanners so there isnt a lot of spamming going on. sometimes it gets so full they'll be spectacting and just waiting for someone to drop out.

and the best weapon is the shock rifle. :D using the primary fire to blow up somebody's shock orb in their face or hitting a moving shock combo is the greatest.

My friend keeps a p3 box with Voodoo cards, among all of his other high end PC's, to run nothing but that and Quake!

I miss that game too. I played for several years starting from day 1. I clearly remember the progression as people learned all the tricks from the simple hammer jumping, to rocket launching teammates, to the double hammer jump. I spent most of my time playing Assault and it was kind of funny how a level like Overlord went from nearly unbeatable when assaulting against good players to nearly indefensible thanks to all the tricks.

I loved the assault mode at LAN parties. I've played a couple of the newer UTs, and they just don't do it for me.

Gauntlet was by far my favorite UT CTF map. Small, tight, and defending the base was quite easy for a mega camper like myself. November was another map that required a lotta luck to cap on. Spent over 3+ hours on that map with the score still tied at 0-0. I am still playing ET, so I have a permanent spot on my hard drive for both, but the ET community is still more active than the original UT. UT2k03 and 04 just didn't do as much for me. I did like the Invasion mod, but the game had grown stale after that.

Up until late last year we used to run a UT server on our LAN here at the office. A lot of us would play on lunch breaks or in the evenings from home.

The newer UTs are obviously great graphically but just don't do it for me. The original is still one of my all-time favorites (TFC for the original HL being my all-time multiplayer favorite; can't wait for the sequel to that to FINALLY come out.)

While there some things I like about UT2004, I miss some of teh assault maps like the underwater station and the trains. I also miss the Ripper. I know, spam weapon, blah blah, but I usually played by myself against bots, and I just thought it was fun having a weapon that's projectiles bounced off walls. The bio-rifle continues to be one of the most useless weapons I've ever seen, yet that keep sticking it in new Unreal Tournaments. Go figure.

What is ET?

Enemy Territory (of Castle Wolfenstein)

my favorite FPS... you dont die with a single shot like like CS and lower learning curve
and theres a bit of strategy involved.. UT is fun, though

shock rifle > all

The shock rifle was the one thing I truly hated facing off against with the flakker. I could just chunkify about anyone with the flakker on a good day except someone with that damned shock cannon.

I put so many hours into UT playing and making levels. The newer UT2004 game is good, but can't quite compare to the original.

I may have to dig out the original UT discs tonight. Oh, and removing Assault from the later versions was the stupidest idea evAr.

Shock cannons were the only guys who were much of a challenge, aside from guys who were good with rockets or camped at the end of the lane with a sniper rifle.

But the shock cannon guys, I loved fighting those guys as long as I had a good spot on the map to help duck n weave.
