I still can't believe Fox canceled 'Firefly' and put this tripe in its place

My Take on Fastlane

Basically showing that you have no idea what you're talking about. 🙂

There's nothing wrong with directing music videos. There's a lot of great movie directors who used to, and still do, direct music videos. David Fincher, Mark Romanek, Spike Jonze and Anton Fuqua to name a few.

There is something wrong with being associated with Charlie's Angels though. That was a bad movie, although I can see it as a close relative to Fastlane. No worth while plot, stupid stunts, and lots of women in tight clothing. The script was so bad it wasn't worth the eye candy.

So where is any decent work (not videos, something with a script) by this director? I guess I'm on the side of that believes this guy can't direct anything but garbage. I can only hope his next project will prove me wrong.....

Charlie's Angels was a tongue-in-cheek version of the original TV show. I enjoyed watching it. It wasn't an academy award winning movie, but they don't have to be. It just has to be entertaining and I think that was accomplished with the movie.

What did you actually expect from this movie?

I agree, but still McG writes low-IQ dribble.

I may be wrong, but i think that reruns of Fastlane come on MTV....so the kids watching MTV catch it, and then start looking for it on Fox, I guess.

it is pretty cheesy. hot chicks tho!

Not much but it went even lower than I thought. I guess the fight scenes were just too bad for me. Not everything should have matrix style martial arts. The helicopter and missles were bad too. Sam Rockwell's character was awful and a joke as a villain. The bit with the bird song was so bad I had to laugh, which is what I think the movie was aiming for. Unfortunately the rest of it missed that mark.
I have some friends who enjoyed it, but overall it just made me go ughhh.

It sounds to me like you just took the movie waaaaay to seriously.

I'm curious, has anybody seen John Doe, the show which follows Fastlane? It looks somewhat interesting (at least compared to Fastlane), but I don't want to dive into something that's bad...

Personally I liked John Doe a lot better than Firefly - its probably one of my favorite shows this season. I actually didn't find Firefly all that interesting although I watched most of the episodes. John Doe has one thing in common with Firefly though - they are showing the episodes of that out of order too. However, in John Doe's case its a lot more obvious. One week he knows something about himself, then the following he suddenly doesn't know it anymore.

That was the other thing that bugged me, John Doe and firefly didn't seem like very complementary shows to me. The carry over audience was very minimal and it seemed strange to put the two new shows together to me.

The showing episodes out of order seems to me like a sign that someone in fox's programing division is running amok. It makes little sense and seriously hurts the shows over the long run... Why mess with a show's story line just because you want more action this week? Why try to program for a specific week that closely?

I never really gave Firefly a chance and I know I don't like Fastlane.

I like John Doe so far. The past two episodes with the serial killer were well done in my opinion. And he is not The Pretender with Amnesia as people stated above. He was an experiment by some secret agency (like Pretender), but he does not spend each week in a different locale or doing a different job. He spends time researching who he is and assisting the local police solve crimes.

My disappointment this season was CBS putting Robber Homicide on hiatus.

"Hiatus" another word for cancelled... Unfortunately hiatus is usually another word for cancelled. Technically firefly is on "hiatus" but thanks to Mutant Enemy we know its really cancelled. Hiatus is just another fuzzy term that leaves a little wiggle room...

I was being glib, but the vibe I get from the shows is the same. Not that this is to be construed as a negative.

Of course, The Pretender was Quantum Leap minus time travel. 😉

Actually, just because a show is on hiatus doesn't mean it's cancelled. When Felicity was on the air, they were on hiatus a few times and still lasted I think 5 or 6 years.

The one or 2 ads I did see for Firefly made me want to watch the show bad....however after I never saw much more advertisement for it i quickly forgot about it...hmm damn now its canceled? sucks...

edit

Fastlane was ok when I first watched it with the chick from cleopatra 2525 or whatever that show was....well only because she is hot...it got old real quick.

"Firefly (Global/Fox). The axing was confirmed by series creator Joss Whedon on December 16. Three episodes remain unaired."
-Source TV Guide

I watched it but wasn't very impressed, not a great loss IMO.

This explains it to me. You cannot expect a geeky scifi show like that to survive in primetime.

That is REALLY dumb to even look at. One of the most popular shows in the history of Fox was Xfiles. Go look up numbers from it's first year. Firefly beat it easily. Not to mention that Firefly had much less ad time.

I can't belive they cancelled Dark Angel for Firefly and now they are replacing that with Fastlane.
