exactly? It puts more protein in your body. It doesn?t actually do anything.

However, if you lift weights and eat well and all that jazz, it could help you get bigger and stronger. Dont forget, it'll get turned into fat if you dont work out enough. And it wont make you big magically either. My friend eats tons AND protein and hasnt gotten much bigger. Stronger, sure. But it depends on your body type.

keep working hard though.

Are you on an exercise or weight control regiment?

You're taking something and you don't know why? That is just stupid.

yeah it'll turn in to fat :p Also, protein mixes have not been proven to be more effective than regular protein from food...

uh, no.

Didn't I tell you to LIFT in that other thread?

If you want to get bigger, GO TO THE DAMN WEIGHT ROOM!

Protein is the building block of muscle growth, thus protein supplements aid in building muscle.

I've been taking protein lately and it seems to help a little. Its handy right after a work out, and to suppliment protein from food, since that is all it really is.

My roommate bought a 5lb. jug of that protein powder. He drank it one time and he couldn't stand it. He wanted to bulk up because he is pretty weak and got the bigger jug because it was a better value. He hasn't drank it since and it is still sitting on his bookcase.

with constant excercise, it will help you put on extra mass.

you'll just be sitting on the 'ol porcelain longer w/ any extra proteins that you're body doesn't use.
you should worry about carbs though; unless you consume too many carbs, then your body will store it as glucose, that glycogen will be stored in your ever expanding body.

yeah, i just came back from goin out :)beer::beer::beer: )... but i still remember some stuff :D

Holy crappy picture.

But yeah, I bought one of those 5 lb. jugs, took it for about 5-6 days before I wanted to just throw up after each time..but then I devised ways around it. First I added ice cream to it and made a nice milk shake, tried both strawberry and chocolate..both made it manageable, I even threw in a banana every once in a while too. Then I actually got another type of protein shake, strawberry, which actually by itself is damn good, and take a half a scoop of each and mix it together so that I can get value and taste.

Only recently though have I really upped my amounts to two a day everyday, rather than just once after each workout..and I've gained about 8 lb. in the last few weeks.

yea, that's what you get when your roommate is sleeping and you can't use a flash and thus are forced to use a camcorder with nightshot.

I used to drink those massive protein shakes all the time when I was a teenager....weighed in at just over 155lbs at 6'.
They didnt work worth a damn.

Get older, get married and have a couple of kids....it works.....I'm now at a solid 215lbs (not fat either)
LOL

I tried one of the big $30 protein mixes from GNC also, without hardly working out, just to see if it alone would put on eight, but did nothing. What about GNC's "Weight Gainer" mix?

SportSC4, can you explain the glucose thing more? BTW, I have low blood sugar so don't like the sugar in these mixes.

The protein mixes alone don't have much calories in them to make you fat. The mix I've been drinking has under 150 calories per serving, which is essentially like drinking a can of soda. If you aren't working out, your body will simply use the protein as fuel and burn it off or, depending on your activity level, store it as fat... just like it would with any energy source be it carbohydrate, fat, or protein.

If you're just looking to put on extra pounds, I'd recommend a weight gainer. Most have over 500 calories per serving with plenty of nutrients, protein, and carbs.

But since you're not working out, buy plenty of weight gainer products and load up. The fatter you get, the better I look.

there is no magic pill to make you put on more body mass unless you don't care whether it is muscle or fat. If you don't care, hell just eat a ton of ice cream or some Big Macs. Just eating protein shakes (as mentioned) won't bulk you up. Get in the gym, pump some iron and supplement your meals with protein shakes. You don't need the shakes but it is tough to get 180 grams of protein from regular food intake, and shakes are just convenient. Get the 100% Whey from Optimum Nutrition chocolate (I get the 10lb bag for $57 shipped), mix it with 8oz milk, 6oz water, use the shaker and you have yourself a nice 30gram protein shake (milk+powder) at right around 200 calories. But ya if you just want to get fatter, get N-large 10lb tub from prolab, or jsut mix your protein with a bunch of high colorie type of stuff.

It does the same thing as other protein in meats, but I don't think it contains the fats and cholesterol. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hey, that's the stuff I tried. I didn't put on any weight that I noticed (not working out). Isn't it just a protein mix, and not like the 'weight gainers'?
