I started Shaving with a Standard Razor

So yeah, basically, I have been shaving alot with an electric razor, and I hated it. It was too half assed, it didn't get the areas I wanted it to, it felt lame, and I wanted something more stimulating for hair.

So I got some shaving cream and a manual razor, and it makes quite a difference. Very enjoyable, and very precise, PLUS, e-p33n points +++


Thought I'd recommend to anyone interested in looking well groomed.

I like the manual razor, but I have the most coarse hair so I would prefer electric if they were cheaper.

I prefer my rotary shaver to a mach3. But I prefer a mach3 to an electric foil shaver. Would like to get a nice safety razor set. A lot of it depends on your face/facial hair.

I've tried lot of different kinds of razors and still always come back to my Mach 3 every time.

I ended up getting a Mach3 turbo razor for Christmas (my 3-year old though it looked cool). Seriously one of the best presents I have ever gotten. I have some pretty tough hair and electrics do not work at all. I have tried just about everything (short of a straight razor) and this seems to be the best, most convenient shave (vs using those old fashioned safety razors).

Also, get some good shave gel (neutrogena is currently my favorite) and shave in the shower. Great combo.

Mach 3 Turbo is much better than the Mach 3. Trust me on this.

M3Power is only better than the Mach 3 Turbo on the first shave, maybe first 2 shaves if you are lucky.

I cannot disclose why this is the case due to NDA.

Iron Woode, yes, real men use straight razor, sharpen on a leather strap. Never a better, closer shave.

The difference in how the quality of the blades affects your shave depends on your skin type. Under optical microscope, the tips of the razor blades from "typical" disposable companies do not have uniform geometry, have irregularities (think "chips" in the tip), and lack other kinds of polymeric treatment that tends to make shaving more pleasant. These problems and lack of treatment tend to elevate the number of "nicks" during the shave while also not allowing for a clean cut of the hair -- the blade cuts mostly through then tugs at the hair breaking the hair.

Better blades are not necessarily better for different people. Some people are very prone to stick with the system they started off with, others are very prone to continuously upgrade as new technologies come out.

I'm considering a Mach 3 Turbo, I looked at some reviews on Amazon, and one person claimed it tore their skin up. My skin is pretty thick and uh..manly, so I'm not too concerned.

All razors have the possibility of tearing skin up. These blades are microscopically sharp afterall!

The Mach III (non-turbo) does irritate my skin whereas the Turbo doesn't.

It you use shaving creme/products, continue to use them.

I've been using Safety Razors for a couple decades now. When I was younger I had a decent Braun electric, but when I had trouble finding a replacement blade I just went back to Safety Razors and never looked back. Also abandoned Shaving Cream/Gel about 10 years back and have been using soap ever since. All you really need is good lubrication of the face and soap does best IMO. Plus you always have soap and it's cheap.

My Braun does an equal job in 1/10 of the time

I like the Fusion, though it's pricey. First I thought 5 (+1) blades were a gimmick, but it kind of feels like you are just wiping the hair off.
My Panasonic electric seems like the holes in the foil are too thin for my hair.

For the people it works for, it works wondrously. It is very expensive. Do you use the powered version?
