There's a membrane between the keys and the contacts on the new cheapy keyboards, so no surprise.

If it's sugered coke, you can rinse it with distilled or deionized water (don't emerse), and let dry upside down.

I've torn them apart, washed them in the sink (minus one little circuit board), and put them back together. They look like brand new when you do that.
(I've even dried the pieces in the oven set at 200 degrees - but stopped that practice when I melted a nintendo that had pop spilled on it.)

I do the same.

It takes a few minutes to get weird, usually will start to think you hit multiple keys, ie. hit "b" and you'll type something like "bb" or "vbn". As mentioned, a rinsing with water and full drying should fix it.

I think when the water evaporates a bit and it becomes more syrupy the keyboards gonna give out.
