I know I didn't get ripped off because I got quotes from several other shops and the mechanic is a personal friend.

$192 (3.2 hours @ $60) - 90,000 mile service tune-up
$204 (3.4 hours @ $60) - replace timing and accessory belts
$60 (1 hour @ $60) - rebuild starter contacts

My 1994 Toyota Corolla DX currently has 98,908.00 miles and according to the mechanic shouldn't need any major service for another 30,000 miles other than oil changes.

I'm glad I got everything done before driving 500-700 miles this weekend up to Seattle, Washington!
 
It's good that you got everything done but that's still a hefty chunk of change to blow on something that isn't a hot deal !!!

My Camry has 105,000 miles on it, and I haven't even spent that much on service since I got the car in '00.

I've gotten a new set of tires, new front brake pads, a total of 8 oil changes, a front end alignment, and a couple of tire rotations since I got the car with 80,000 miles on it. I still haven't paid close to $600 though...not even close.

Your "friend" was charging you $60.00 an hour for labor?? Up here, the GM *dealer* is cheaper than that.

Other than that, you got a lot of parts that would have been starting to wear out replaced. This is good. 🙂

Yeah yeah I know but I only got this car last September and haven't had the opportunity to "baby" it since it's inception.

Yep I have spent a lot on maintenance after getting both of our current cars used. I had it done right after we purchased them, you never know how the previous owner drove their car (regardless of maintenance records). And both cars are due for 90k mile as soon as the tax return comes in 🙁
 

Thats cheap for a 90k service. The Honda dealership I worked at charged just over $100
more for thier 90K, and that is just for the basic service ( no belts ).

That sucks major balls. I bought my car in november and spent $400 in repairs as soon as I got it. The thing was fine but I had it checked out just in case and that was the bill (including oil change). They recommended a full total tuneup for $450 (this would be a crazy tune up), but I opted to say screw it. I paid $2300 for the car and I refuse to be nickel and dimed by non-essential things. By non-essential I mean if the car starts it's still fine for me.

It actually makes me sick to my stomach the thought of paying $620 on repairs. Used cars are always a risk and just hopefully this will work out ok for me :frown:
 
BTW if you want something to feel better about I just tallied up the amount of money I have to find for various plane tickets and moving expenses within the next 3 months: $4000. Yep, I can't wait.
 
Shoorb, moving again eh. You could save some money by letting them do the tough stuff and do the oil, filters, plugs, and fan/serpintine belt yourself.

Well I'm still here but all our furniture is still up in canada! I can't wait until mrs. skoorb is done school so that our income can double. So many damn expenses. I make good money and the only extra cash I spend is on beer and I can barely get ahead!

That's alright I'll let it slide this time.

I hope my car will last a good 3 years until I can buy a new car and get that "new car smell".
 
If NFS4 had to replace a timing belt on a V6 camry (or later on for his Highlander) expensive doesn't begin to describe it.
 
OUCH! better 620 now,, then 2000 later...... I just put 620 into a new computer system.... my wife is going to kill me...... but atleat I'll die happy!!
