I spent $1100 today and it wont turn on!

So I seem to be suffering from the same blank screen at boot that a lot of other people are experiencing.

I ended up buying a whole rig today, here is what I got.

Intel core 2 quad 6600 775
Asus p5k-e
evga nvidia 8800 gts 640mb sli
3 gigs 6600 ram
seagate sata 750 gig hd
seta cd/dvd
coolermaster 500w extreme.

So with those componets everything boots fine, just no video out, tried different working monitors, dvi and vga. Even tried a nvidia 7800 or something close to that. Only thing that made it work was putting in a intel core 2 duo 6600. Then i had visual.

So tommorow im taking it in to diagnose, ill check power supply first but assuming it is this problem what should i swap? Video card or processor? And what should i swap it for?

I read on here about other people reflashing the video card with some modified code with mixed results, thats not what i want to do. So tell me what to do, but hurry illl go to the store tommorow around 10am.

Excuse typing errors, obviously cant use my computer now, this was typed on my phone.

If you had video with E6600, it means that you have to flash the BIOS to recognize the Q6600 properly.

Put the E6600 in, flash the BIOS, then re-install the Quad.

but if the only problem was that the motherboard wasnt recognizing the processor wouldnt i still get video but just an error on start up?

Just update the BIOS to the latest varsion... You know that it works with the older CPU, right...?

The MB might not be recognizing the CPU, and the symptoms might include... the lack of video signal.

So any specfics on what to update to? Or just go to the asus website and get the latest?

well smartass in the other thread like I said some people are running a modified bios designed just for this card and processor to get along, I wasnt sure if asus had released anything to adress this problem, its sorta hard to check that kinda stuff from a cell phone.

You've already had 2 or so people in this thread tell you to update the bios to the latest version. Try that first, if it doesn't work then you can try other things.

apparently it was a bad processor, reflashed the mobo, even though it already had the up to date bios. Swapping processor now

Scratch all that, it turned out to be bad memory, how embarrassing. Oh well now I have 4 gig's of Patriot 6400.

Since they both utilize 1066MHz I would have never suspected the memory being an issue.
