You must live in some horrible place.

Most of Maryland is very wealthy. Much better then all of Virginia except the northern part which borders Maryland.

What color is the sky in your world?

Why do people make statements like this without posting any personal insight? Do you know what you're talking about? Have you ever spent more than 1 day in Maryland? Don't just bash something and then not give any personal insight as to why you think that. It makes you look naive. Are you just thinking this because somebody told you to?

We get that a lot here in NJ too. One of my friends came here for a visit, his first comment was that he was amazed by how many trees we have here. Not exactly the impression most people have of NJ. But I guess that's what happens when they base their opinion on Newark.

I say that as a person that has lived my entire life in the DC metropolitan area, more specifically Virginia. I have relatives that live in PG, Howard, Dorchester, and Wicomico Counties in Maryland as well as Fairfax, Manassas City, and Prince William Counties in Virginia. Most of Maryland is definitely not wealthy. Outside of Montgomery County Maryland which is demographically almost identical to Fairfax County Virginia Maryland has pretty much the same mix of rural and urban as Virginia with the main difference being that Virginia is a larger (42,769 sq miles) more populous (7,078,515) state than Maryland (12,407 sq miles) (5,296,486). I spent entire summers with my grandparents in Maryland about 12 miles outside of Salisbury so yes I have spent more that 1 day there.

Edit: My original posts were nothing more than the typical joking that takes place between natives of both states hence the emoticons.

If I weren't from Maryland I would hate the place, and I can understand why people would hate this place. The previous gubernatorial administration took a budget surplus and nearly bankrupted the state. Baltimore County (where I live and pay taxes) has to pick up the slack for Baltimore City which is riddled with poverty and addiction. Money is poured into trying to revitalize delapidated areas only so people who don't know how to obey the law can ruin it all over again. Baltimore City has one of the highest std and heroin addiction rates of any city in the country. And not to turn this political but the residents of Baltimore City have continuously elected people from the same political party as mayor since 1967; they wonder why things haven't gotten any better, and yet they refuse to make any steps toward putting some one in office who might enact different policies. Do yourself a favor, don't purchase a house in Maryland that borders the city because all that happens to those areas is section eight apartments start popping up around the perimeter of the city and the next thing you know those houses start dropping in value quickly. Baltimore City is like a cancer that should be put out of it's misery.

Cliffs
Maryland sucks because of Baltimore City
The city is a drain on the state's economy
Don't move anywhere near Baltimore City

If you're living in montgomery, then you should be good to go ;).

At least there are some good jobs close by. Some parts of the state are aweomse, and some 'not so awesome' :p

Agreed. Plus me and the wife just find Virginia to be more beautiful.

Must be Bethesda.

My rent is ~ $1350/month not counting gas or electric and the rent around this area is roughly the same. I guess I'm not as wealthy as your gf :/

Or she doesn't live in the DC Metro area.
