I snapped a 13 year old kid's skateboard in half earlier today.

Am I evil?

I didn't really do it on purpose. I was at a friend of mine's place (he's a few years older than me) And we were in the backyard barbequing, and I was screwing around with the skateboard, trying to get his stepson to ride it off of ledges and do other not entirely safe things with it. I ended up landing on it kinda hard I guess, and snapped the tail off the thing. I should probably buy him a new one.

Buy him a new one and flog yourself with a wet noodle for encouraging Tony Hawk Jr.'s future brain damage and broken bones. 😀

For some reason, things with wheels that cause pain when you mess up while using them are a lot of fun.

Yeah, I'd be pissed if some asshole was on my skateboard, broke it and then didn't buy me a new one. What kind of board was it? My friend and I both had Darkstar boards back in the day and they both broke within 1 - 2 months of use. Heh, I then got the Element Signature deck, which was bliss. I don't know what happened to it though.

Bah... It's cool. I'm sure the kid won't do anything about it... He'll prolly have a new one sooner or later and it definately shouldn't be due to your expense.

I have no idea. Like most skateboards, the logo/graphics are scraped off after a short while. I didn't bother to ask.

Mind if I come over and break some of your stuff and not replace it?

Accidents happen, but it is the responsibility of the person causing the accident to pay for it. No punitive damages though 🙂

Indeed. Falling right on your tailbone while rollerblading can be such a thrilling experience. :Q

Of course, there's also the time I did an endo on my bike when I was like 9 years old. Stupid brother dug a hole on the far side of this jump we were going over and didn't tell me. Went over the jump....I still can't believe I escaped serious injury, much less death on that one.

Another time I was going down my parent's driveway on my scooter when a bee landed on my cheek and stung me. Lost control and ended up hitting the curb across the street and landed in the vacant lot. Escaped without a scratch that time as well.

Then there was the time I ended up in someone's driveway after trying to "stand" on the handlebars of my scooter. Idiocy knows no bounds.... 😀

Just buy him a new one if you've got the funds. It's no big deal, and it will make him happy.

it's generally about $60 for a new board, at least thats how much mine was(for the deck) you don't need to go and buy a full setup.......but you should get him one

Yeah, a skateboard deck isn't particularly expensive, and I can afford one a lot easier than a 13 year old can. I think I'll buy him one and bring it over next time I go over there.

Mite wanna just ask his parents howmuch he buys em for...all decks are not equal (so i hear) and the ones that are designed by the pro skaters cost even more...plus im sure he wants a certain brand or design...i suggest you just give him cash.

That's not a bad idea either, but I would specifically state that he has to use it on a new board. 😉

He lives kinda out in the hills, and doesn't have the ability to drop by a skateshop whenever he wants (I doubt there's a skateshop within ten miles of his house). Plus, he's been using old, used (and therefore cheap) stuff up until now. He'd probably be pretty happy with anything that's new.

Plus I was 13 once, and I know how well 13 year olds manage money, especially when they have to hold on to it for a week or two before they get a chance to go to the skateshop. It'd probably be spent on food or video games or whatever by then. 😉

I broke a kids skateboard once because he left it in the middle of the street and I ran over it.
