I smell weird. Recent Development

So lately I have been told I smell weird. I shower everyday with face lotion, use old spice shaving cream, and body wash.

Despite showering with old spice body wash, ppl around me tell me I smell weird or "bad" and it becomes noticeable if I sweat.

I've never had this problem before. Yea, I can use deoderant, but I think that's missing the point. That merely masks this musk.

What could be causing it? I have been eating more spicy food than previously in my life in the past year, as well as sometimes only eating steak and mashed potatoes (although that's changed.)

I also eat a fair amount of chipotle.

Any idea what's causing this problem. I'm well past puberty (unfortunately)

Might be a bad laundry batch. Do a full sanitary wash, don't let the laundry linger in the washer and dry it right away.

My advice? Switch to unscented personal hygiene products and laundry products. Make sure you are wearing a complete set of clean clothes every day, head to toe including your undergarments.

Do you have any strange habits? Do you work in an office? I have found that in an office it's better to smell like nothing, as everyone's tastes are different you can always guarantee a certain amount of people will be annoyed with your choice of scented personal hygiene products.

Very good point. Laundry should be removed from the washer and hung or machine dried immediately. I prefer to hang dry my dress shirts indoors. Guaranteed to not shrink and not smell. :)

Do you use deodorant or antiperspirant? Deodorant will make you smell like perfume or whatever smell it has, antiperspirant will make you smell like nothing, which is really what you want.

In order to diagnose your problem I think we would need more details on what the smell smells like.

I generally don't think it's a good practice to use too many products on your skin. Most of the ones you buy from the store have chemicals in them that aren't good for you. Using strong products, with too much frequency, can actually upset the bacterial balance of your skin. It is possible that your diet and/or daily habits are causing problems.

you make it sound like you don't use any deodorant or antiperspirant? That's probably a good explanation right there...

I used to work with this lady who had breath that could take down a bull elephant. I feel for the OP's co-workers.

Where exactly is said odor coming from. Clothes? You? Your butt? Kinda need more info here.

I recently switched to air drying all casual shirts (t-shirts and polo), they take a while to dry but it's worth it.

Could also be a sinus infection... that can create a mustiness.

you will smell like what you eat... 1st and foremost, you will sweat garlic, onion, vinegar, asparagus/brusslesprouts, anything which emits an oil, and many other strong foods.

Try wearing gold bond body powder.

Additionally if your cooking is strong and indoors, you could be leaving odors on your clothes (even in your closet) from the air when you cook, especially if you are doing a lot of frying/deep frying.

Tbh with you guys, I think the laundry is a good call. I have a couple shirts I rarely wash mostly because I don't sweat in them...or didn't use to.

I either need to discard them or wash thoroughly.

RE: bad breath: this is a more personal concern. I don't breathe on people, and brush my teeth, although I may have a minor sinus/nasal cavity concern, which I am looking into with an ENT specialist.

The 'smell' comments are less co-workers and more housemates. Also, more targeted to body odor.

Do you you dry your clothes right away, and do you check to make sure the clothes were fully dried in the drier when it finishes. Allowing the clothes to remain damp for too long can cause a bad odor to build up in it.
