Hippies can't be cool, they're gone...maybe you meant hippies werecool? Besides, most of them eventually showered and joined the establishment that they railed against in their youth.

Yeah, I love that movie. That's why I said they joined the "establishment" rather than selling out. :D

Assuming that hippies turned into tree huggers shows your ignorance.

If you were a genuine hippy, then you'd be brain dead right now from too much drugs... or were you not a "real" hippy and didn't actually do any mind altering drugs???

Maybe they haven't evolved into tree huggers, as stated above, the real ones are all dead. The tree huggers are all the above wanna-be hippies that didn't die off and still have a portion of thier brains.

I will admit that sometimes I AM ignorant, but I did grow up in the 70's seeing the aftermath of hippies, that's close enough for me.

Take offense if you will, it wasn't meant towards you directly.

Not at all, just don't have a high opinion of hippies, or as they have evolved: tree huggers.

I think you watched too much "Darma and Greg". :)

Dude, i can smell the Patchouli oil just from that picture....

You wouldn't know what a dirty hippie smells like, hell, I bet you never been in the presence of a real hippie.

I am taking night classes at a massage school in Boulder, CO. There are a lot of "new Age" people that go to that school. a girl in my class started talking to me about The Rainbow People and how much she enjoyed the last gathering.

The hippie culture is still alive here, hell there is even a small town a few miles from here that was established by hippies in the 60's and their decendents still live there in that lifestyle. no power, water, bath's, dogs running loose everywhere.....

What I'd like to know is..

What exactly is wrong with being a "tree hugger"?

It's wrong to care about nature?

I thought it was nature. :p

There is nothing wrong with caring for nature... it's just putting nature over humanity that I take issue with.

You can't draw black and white lines line that.

It is necessary to put nature over humanity sometimes, because nature is what created us and continues to support us.

Instead of saying "Bah, nature.. humanity is more important.", you have to realize that the preseveration of natural biodiversity is beneficial to us just as much as it is them.

Nature can live without us. We cannot live without it.

Instead of being extreme "tree hugger" or extreme.. anti-tree hugger?, why not take the middle road and realize that we should strive to protect our planet & it's natural life whenever possible?

Shrug. Seems like common sense to me.

Exactly, it's not the average hippy or tree hugger that bothers me, more power to them for thier beliefs, it's the FEW who are extreme that get under my skin. There is a balance that will work, too much on either side isn't good for anyone.

Like the ones in that episode of Bullsh!t that signed a petition to ban dihydrogen monoxide at a rally because the person kept telling people that it was leaking into the water supply?
