Hit the F5 key repeatedly while the computer is booting (before the windows screen comes up) to bring up a menu that'll let you enter safe mode, which is where you can reset the hz.

I don't think safe mode will work, because it uses either 640x480 or 800x600 by default. What you need is VGA mode. And F8 also works... I didn't know F5 did the trick, too.

safemod surely, if that did not work for some reason erasing video drivers would probley do the trick also i'd imagine

Why is no one listening to me? VGA mode is designed to be able to change your resolution!! You didn't need to uninstall anything!

F8 and VGA Model Not Safe Mode! Egeekial is correct. Have done it since Win 2k came out. Probably 1000's of times. People love to see how high their monitor will go in refersh rate and set it too high. VGA mode comes up 640x480. Once there you can set it where you want it. No reinstall of drivers needed. Did it the other day. Delivered a system next door and forgot how lame their monitor was and it would not even display 1024x768 at 75HZ! VGA mode took care of it.

Hi, The guys that suggested SAFE MODE are right on. Safe mode does not use your video driver nor higher resolutions. It should always give you a pic no matter what you have set the video to. Jim

Edit: There is still a bit of confusion in your answers. Safe mode is to get you into a condition that allows you to see what the heck you are doing. While in safe mode you have to make the corrections that are necessary to get you out of the bind you are in. Set the resolution etc. back to something that has worked before. When you reboot you will be back in business. If you still have problems you are working on the wrong device. Jim

yeah but after you are in safe mode it will be fine but when you restart to normanl everything will be screwed again, then you will have to unistall Drivers and then reboot and reinstall drivers, VGA mode is better.

From what I understand safemode can set your resolution to a lower one. And then you have that when you reboot.;

Safe mode is for fixing a software issue that is stopping Windows from being able to boot. VGA mode is designed SPECIFICALLY for your problem.

VGA mode. Not safe mode. Since NT4. Sheesh. Cant change resolution in safe mode as the driver is not installed.

just because of that, i always make sure the non-supported modes are not displayed.
also just FYI, I've tried safe mode in the past and not been able to change the refresh rate to reflect in "non safe mode windows". I've had to find a monitor that will run the frequency and plug it in. SUCH a pain in the ass. That's at least easier than uninstalling and re-installing the drivers. (IMO at least)
