I seriously thought I would outgrow metal once I turned 30....

I always thought... "I wonder what I will listen to once I outgrow this 'death metal' phase of my life"... but every year I'm into more and more bands.... is that common among metal fans?

...and speaking of metal, any good new bands/records?

I know how you feel. Most people I grew up with turned to pop-rock or country. I still listen to metal.

To find new music, I like to go to youtube and look through the search results.

If MTV still plays it, I used to watch "Head Bangers Ball", but I have not see that show in years. HBB was a great source of new music.

If you have Dish network, scroll through the metal music channels from time to time. I like to listen to the music channels when I am on the treadmill.

33. I can't take the "SCREAMING IN YOUR FACE" BS anymore. It all sounds the same. I still like metal though but these bands trying to beat eachother to the "lowest grumbly can't understand WTF you are saying" voice is kinda stupid.

This I agree with..
Still love megadeth and KillSwitch and a few more and anything 80s.

31 here.... and still thrashin'!

New Amon Amarth is very good... comes out march 29th!

Amon Amarth is one of my favorite bands... I saw them live last year at Irving Plaza... they were awesome. It's the perfect band for metal fans who don't like extreme growling/screaming, but who don't want a radio friendly, mainstream sound.

Screaming/Unintelligible/Emo metal consists of like 5 types out of 30.

I'll be 27 in 24 days. Power metal is all I listen to almost exclusively. I love everything about it, and I hope that never changes.

I "outgrew" metal when I was 10.

But then I realized that it wasn't so much that I was ever into metal, but that I only picked up the Iron Maiden albums because the art kicked so much ass for a wee lad of my non-discriminating tastes at the time.

Never will outgrow.

Yep, some new good releases by The Human Abstract, Protest the Hero, Born of Osiris, Darkest Hour.

Go download pandora, and you'll find plenty of metal.

Check out artica, parkway drive, skeletonwitch(the name , Emmure(new stuff is pretty good)Enter Shikari(probaly not considered metal, but has some heavier songs mixed with dubstep)
and there is plenty more,

I never really lost my taste in Metal...

But I *did* branch way out: Toss my MP3 player on random, and you'll hear as much Miles Davis as you do Megadeth.... Dave Brubeck to Dream Theater.... Tracy Chapman to Tool...

Basically everything except waaaaay Western (sounds like someone is torturing cats..) on the one end, and Rap/Pop on the other (because I care about musicianship, not some ripped crap done by a 12 y/o on a Macintosh or fed to us by the big labels).

+1 same here 🙂

when i was younger i would be all like "metal is all i want to ever listen to" now im like whatever who cares.
random on pandora and thats all i do 🙂

And you'll realize you're old when you hear your metal bands on the oldies station. Billy Idol right after Buddy Holley.

Doesn't bother me.

What does is the girl at the checkout counter... I'm thinking she's really cute and being a little flirty, right up to the point she uses "that" tone of voice and calls me "Sir". 😱

Then you know you're getting old. :'(

I outgrew some metal, definitely Death Metal. I'm also no longer a fan of "screaming metal", like Pantera turned in to starting with their Trendkill album.

I still like metal, but I don't follow any new bands. I mostly listen to my old stuff. Partly because none of the new stuff I seem to hear ever have solos anymore. Seems like musicality and technical skill have been waning...but maybe I'm just being myopic.

Anyway, I guess it's not so much I grew out of metal, but that I grew up and my musical tastes broadened.

I was actually very close to just giving up and stop listening to metal because I was growing tired of listening to the same bands: Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Rammstein, Fear Factory... but then I found lesser known bands (Amon Amarth, Trivium, Mastodon, Gojira, Riverside, etc) with lots of talent and I decided to stay with metal.

I was a pretty big metalhead in my adolescence, but I've almost entirely "outgrown/walked away" from it since and I'm only 26 now. I still listen to a few bands fairly often (Metallica, Megadeth, Sabbath, etc.) but my search for new bands/taste for heavier stuff just isn't there anymore. I also listen to a lot more genres of music than I ever did back then.

Ehh, 31 here, I listen to a lot of death metal, black metal, doom metal, and prog metal mostly. I guess I outgrew most power metal, and pretty much all the so called death metal bands that just play power metal but scream. And I was really never into the "hardcore" style of metal... as it always seemed boring...

I'm pretty sure I'll never outgrow my Opeth, Death, Carcass, Katatonia, Enslaved, Emperor, Immortal, Macabre, Novembers Doom, Electric Wizard, Katatonia, Saturnus, etc...
