I seem to have no long term memory of experiences

I can have long term memory gained from memorizing things or trained things (for example, learning a programming language), but I'm finding my memory of experiences I've had quickly leaves me.

This is a problem because I forget who I am. I have experiences from just 3 days ago that are a far distant memory, and I can barely remember what occurred, how I felt, what we talked about, etc.

Any advice?

I don't think anybody here can help you.

Have you tried "Health and Fitness" forum?

Besides, you won't remember you even made this post 3 days from now.

I fully expect to see the same thread three days from now or I'm going to be very disappointed.

Meh, probably pretty normal. Especially if the things you did then were rather routine and/or not unique. We can't possibly recall every minute detail of even yesterday. There's just no point in storing that info.

Don't do drugs.

My personal experience with marijuana is that the memory impairment is greatly exaggerated.

Stress is the main thing that wrecks my memory.

I don't eat right, don't sleep right, and in general, do not take care of myself when I am under great financial or other stress.

you jest, but I only came back to this because I checked my old spammail account and saw an email notification from Anandtech about this thread.

yeah experiencing that sort of stuff oneself lends credence to the notion of providing everyone's necessities for free (we have the tech to do it) aka government provided. Food, shelter, water, clothing. Then if you want shiny stuff, you get a job.

Brain damage can occur from one or more of the following:

Blows to the head
Alcohol or drug abuse
Heavy metal toxicity
calcium deposits
stroke
hypoxia
various illnesses
infections
chemotherapy

Get a brain scan done. Ask your doctor for a referral to a neurologist.

You left out brain damage caused the by stress from the impending financial crisis and the corruption in our country.

I have frequent short-term memory loss due to depression.

Since I am retired, I have adopted this technique to convert the short-term memories into long-term memories:

I study my mathematics for a couple of hours and then I take a nap. Study some more and take a nap.

This works quite well for me. If you are working, your boss probably doesn't want you to sleep on the job.

See a doctor.

I have suffered from Sleep Apnea most of my life due to cogenital birth defects in my soft palate and nasal passageways.

Only for the past 5 years have I been getting proper sleep.

Before the last 5 years of my life I was completely incompacitated and did not know why I could not remember things like other people.

This memory impairment affected all parts of my life from articulation of speech to social interaction.

I also was serverely depressed my whole life because of this lack of sleep

You should get yourself tested for Sleep Apnea Rudy Toody!

Your depression and memory problems could be related to lack of sleep.
