I played it for 20 hours straight yesterday, and the day before. Anyone else hopelessly addicted to a game right now?

I had it, but the game cheats. On a huge map, I start creating my city, and then 5 minutes later the computer has a city 5 feet next to mine?:p

[churchlady]Well isn't that special![/churchlady]

Nope, Civ 3 had some problems with it that made me not play. Probably fixed but it angered me that a galleon could sink my submarine.

I was a Civ3 junky for a couple weeks... and then it got old, especially when a turn starts taking 10 minutes....

Yeah it gets kind of annoying then. Esp b/c when I get steam power, I usually build a hoarde of workers to connect everything/anything with railroads & finish improving my city squares. Once they're finished...yeah...annoying.

And searching across a HUGE map to find the 2 polluted squares: annoying.

OP: 1882AD and you're on astronomy? tsk tsk... :p

I played at least five hours of IL-2:FB+AEP+PF . . . wait, thats greek to the uninitiated.

Thats IL-2 Sturmovik: The Forgotten Battles + The Ace Expansion Pack + Pacific Fighters . . .

Anyway, spent long hours playing this both on and offline today.

And I played an hour or so of HL2 deathmatch. Good times. What a great way to spend a sunday. Now I'm up working at this hour. heh. so it goes.

Never put your city on wealth; tisk tisk.

Also, for those who are discouraged about loading times, check out civfanatacs.com. In the creation forums, they have created mods that moad immensly fast on even the slowest of systems.

For those of you that are angered by the random rolls that make spearmen distroy your tanks, & galleons sink your submarines, I reccomend the Rise & Rule mod. ALOT more techs, units, civs, plus modded unit life bars. For example, a crummy canoe will have only 1 bar of health, while some other units can have 8 or so, plus move many more times & attack in one turn. This mod also evens up the bar on bigger difficulty levels by making it hard to expand in the beginning. So teh Zulus won't be parked next to your capital within 12 turns.

This game, more then most, is more cpu, then gpu intensive. My xp-m @2400 with a ti4200 can run a custom huge map@ 240x200, with 20 civs for most of the game effortlessly. 300 turns in, I get about 25-30 seonds between turns. Turning off battle animations/friendly & automatic moves helps alot too.

Enjoy. :)

I was addicted to it for a while, then I lost my disc. Great game though, may have to buy it again.

And why do you have your cities on wealth?!

Civ3 Conquests adds so much. It was only $10 over a year ago.

The customization makes the replay value infinite.

Yeah I've had my time with civ, many lost hours of sleep over that game.

In the end I'd usually get soo pissed off at the computer, I'd declare an anarchist gov't and drop as many nukes as possible.

I  this game. I haven't played it in a long time, but it's definitely one of those "just one more turn!" games that you find yourself playing until the sun comes up without even realizing it :D

Shouldn't you have rifles more advanced technology by the 1800s? I was quite sure I did by then...

It depends on the game difficulty & how well he is trading. He should still be farther then that, even on chieftan. With proper management, On Regent/Monarch, you can get into the modern age by the 12th century. Try researching techs outside of the ones the computer usually goes for. Make as many contacts with other civs as possible, then sell off those techs all at once. You can also keep your tech slider low for most of the expansion part of the game, & buy off cheap techs once a good amount of civs have discovered them.

I'm still addicted to civ3.

As someone said on the civfanatics forums... Give me 40 artillery, and I'll give you the world!

It is, by far, the best game of all time, at least in terms of replayability and sheer time that it can keep your interest.
