I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
I see a line of cars and they?re all painted black
With flowers and my love both never to come back
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a new born baby it just happens ev?ry day
I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door and it has been painted black
Maybe then I?ll fade away and not have to face the facts
It?s not easy facin? up when your whole world is black

No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not foresee this thing happening to you
If I look hard enough into the settin? sun
My love will laugh with me before the mornin? comes

I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
Hmm, hmm, hmm,...
I wanna see it painted, painted black
Black as night, black as coal
I wanna see the sun blotted out from the sky
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black
Yeah!

I heard a punk cover of this song the other day that made me want to kill someone. Horrible. The original is a great song, though. After seeing this thread I had to fire it up :)

don't really need to see
so i don't need to see so i'll paint
i don't know, i'll paint it black
i don't need to see
i don't see how you see out of your window
i don't need to see, i'll paint mine black
i don't need to see
i don't see how you see out of your window
i don't need to see, i'll paint mine black
i don't know me and you don't know you
so we fit so good together
cos i knew you like i knew myself
we clung on like barnacles on a boat
even though the ship sinks you know you can't let go
i was talking like two hands knocking
yelling 'let me in, let me in, please come out.'
black glass, dirt-based soap,
tell yourself what you know.
my friends, oh my friends,
bury your head i'll help you bury your plans.
hard hit, hard to miss, problems are what a problem is.
my light came up quick, call it your asterisk,
buried like boys in a boys first book of the stars
saw it as satellite
constant unblinking as
buried in the bottom of a bottom of a brackish lake
i don't really need to see
so i don't need to see so i'll paint
i don't know, i'll paint it black
i don't need to see
i don't see how you see out of your window
i don't need to see, i'll paint mine black
i don't need to see
i don't see how you see out of your window
i don't need to see, i'll paint mine black

Please allow me to introduce myself
I?m a man of wealth and taste
I?ve been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man?s soul and faith
And I was ?round when jesus christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what?s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game
I stuck around st. petersburg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the czar and his ministers
Anastasia screamed in vain
I rode a tank
Held a general?s rank
When the blitzkrieg raged
And the bodies stank
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name, oh yeah
Ah, what?s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah
I watched with glee
While your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades
For the gods they made
I shouted out,
Who killed the kennedys?
When after all
It was you and me
Let me please introduce myself
I?m a man of wealth and taste
And I laid traps for troubadours
Who get killed before they reached bombay
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But what?s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah, get down, baby
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But what?s confusing you
Is just the nature of my game
Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me lucifer
?cause I?m in need of some restraint
So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I?ll lay your soul to waste, um yeah
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, um yeah
But what?s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, um mean it, get down
Woo, who
Oh yeah, get on down
Oh yeah
Oh yeah!
Tell me baby, what?s my name
Tell me honey, can ya guess my name
Tell me baby, what?s my name
I tell you one time, you?re to blame
Ooo, who
Ooo, who
Ooo, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Oh, yeah
What?s me name
Tell me, baby, what?s my name
Tell me, sweetie, what?s my name
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Oh, yeah

I saw this years ago in Colombia, and it was known as "La mision del deber"

Yeah I've heard it. It sounds like San Kinnison (sp) is doing the lead vocals:laugh:

good memory. yep, it was gob from the 'stir of echoes' soundtrack. it seemed to be the popular song to make a return of the late 90's because 'devils advocate' used 'paint it black' during its end credits also. kind of like how we hear 'under pressure' everywhere now.

Tour of Duty.

That was a good show when I was in junior high (or whenever that was). I saw it on TV again last year and I couldn't believe I watched that crap.

Vanessa Carlton also did a cover.
The original was also at the end of Devils Advocate.

I like the Gob remake, but I like the original more. I don't know how Rolling Stones made that song when all the others just fade away by comparison.

That crap pisses me off. There's no reason to do a cover of a song. Ever. If it sucked the first time, then it's probably going to suck this time too. And if it rocked the first time, chances are you'll just fukc it up. And mimes also piss me off.
