I scored a Socket A system from the dumpster

I still have most of one socket A system in the garage that I haven't sold on eBay yet (I sold my other 4 socket A boxes). I think it is an Abit KX7-333R with an Athlon 2500. I remember what a pain in the ass it was to get the board working and stable with a Creative sound card (the infamous Via chipset/Creative sound card issue) but everything finally worked and it was a good box.

Heh, I just retired a 2800+ less than a month ago. I was running it as my server, and it barely squeaked by the minimum requirements for Server 2008 R2 😛 Components were giving up left and right -- I was down to a single SATA port on the mobo and 3 PCI slots. I even had the CPU fan die on me and the system still chugged away without a problem. Hell, I took the system image backup and put it on a new Athlon X4 without too many hitches.

Hrm, come to think of it, I have a Slot A motherboard and an Athlon 650 still. They're not in a case or in use, but still in the parts bin.

I wish I could find someone that would pay for the old stuff I have but it doesn't even seem to be worth the time to put on eBay to get $1 for it after shipping is factored in.

looks like mine. my uncle gave me a bunch of parts he got at a flea market. then i put a system together for it. it has a 3000+ barton, A7N8X, geforce 6200 and 512mb ram. it needs a new psu now though but its almost not worth it.

i also have a A7N8X-E with 2500+ barton and A7V8X-X with 1600+ palomino mobo's and cpu's

I still have at least 3 of those Socket A systems around here somewhere. Got an ancient Socket 370 with a 1ghz FC-PGA P3 on it, and two Pentium 4 systems (2.8ghz and 2.4ghz).

Oh and a P3 933 mobo/cpu/ram combo in a box in my closet.
