I saw Battlefield Earth last night

I knew it was going to be bad.

I had every expectation that the movie was not going to be like the book, and that just about every person that has ever commented on it said it was awful.

And I was still completely unprepared of how BAD that movie really is.

🙁

It's like John Travolta only got half way through the book, got bored with it, and decided to do his own version. The book is AWESOME.

The book is too big and detailed to fit into a single movie. It needs to be a trilogy. I would like to see the same crew that did Lord of the Rings, do Battlefield Earth. Or maybe SciFi could pick it up and do a miniseries on it.

SF has so many better books that could be adapted instead.

Hubbard wrote some decent "B" grade SF and fantasy before he got religion, but never reached the level of E.E. "Doc" Smith, A.E. Van Vogt, Edmond Hamilton, James Schmitz, etc.

Stop smoking crack...L Ron Hubbard couldn't write a good book of anything except slock that stupid celebrities would think was great.

meh, the book isn't even that good.
Agreed. The only reason I bought it was the number of pages to dollar ratio 😀 Big mistake.

same here, I picked it up at the airport bookstore hoping to kill some time. Weird thing is while I was reading it on the plane a lady walking down the aisle asked me "Are you into Scientology?!"

They're everywhere!

Of SF books, I'd love to see quality movies of Ringworld and Lucifer's Hammer.
 you could make a whole anthology series out of the Known Space novels and short stories.

Brin's Uplift books, Brian Daley's "Ruler of Worlds" trilogy, Lee & Miller's Liaden novels, there are so many good stories that could have been made into movies or TV programs instead of hack hollywood "sci fi" like Enterprise.

Speaking of Trek & Niven, "The Soft Weapon" was made into an episode of the Star Trek cartoon series.

Battlefield Earth isn't nearly the epic story that LOTR is though. It would pale in comparison no matter who did it or how well it was done.

No, it is not. If you really think it is, then you seriously need to read some better science fiction.

What did you find wrong with the book? 😕

It's been a number of years since I've read it, but I recall it lacking a lot of depth. You should compare it to a far, far better novel, like Peter F. Hamilton's Pandora's Star.
