Itunes songs from apple will not play.

However songs you encode you self in a wide variety of formats including ACC will play on the Zune. The only DRM songs this will play are from Zune Marketplace. However like I said you can rip CDs, or burn CDs of DRM content(if the DRM allows you to burn to CDs) and then rip them, and put them on the Zune.

Makes me wish my Dell DJ 30 would hurry up and find a way to die so I can justify to my wife that I need a Zune.

Oh Im sure they introduce an 80-100GB Zune by the end of 1H 2007. Probably when they get around to introducing Movies/Shows on Zune Marketplace.

The Zune Software interface is much much slicker than the Ipods. I was messing around with one.

Also ive said it before and Ill say it again, more so after messing with it, the size different between Zune and the Ipod is minimal.

The Zune has a promising future. Will MS overtake Apple? No, but they will garner a sizable share over time, and Zune will ultimately be a profit generator. It'll definately be the #2 Mobile Audio Player Brand on the market, My guess is they will crack 30% market share in 3 years, but wont come close to Apple.

Looks slick but I still can't find a use for an mp3 player, my phone suffices perfectly fine, sure it could be better but overall I'd rather use my phone, carrying extra things just isn't practical. Now I'm just looking for an Mini-SD-HC/SD-HC capable phone with WM5 and UMTS service, good battery life and higher resolution screen.

David Pogue is quite possibly the worst "tech journalist" there is, closely followed by Mossberg and CNet as a whole. Anyone who takes their reviews into mind when purchasing a product is an uninformed sucker.
Well I'm sorry these journalists are not IT pros and fail to live up to your geeky expectations. :D I kinda know what you're getting at but I read this article, and it seems to be quite reasonable.

This isn't going to kill the iPod. MS only has one model so far, and at $250 it isn't going to outsell and ipod nano. Also from the zune, zu-ne, zucchini (however it's pronounced) marketplace it says,
"When you purchase a track or album, you own it outright. That?s right."
Does that mean I can upload it to the internet? Sell it to friends for a quarter?
MS should change the name to the Newton, ClipIt, or BOB.

The Zune Pass is the thing thats heavily DRM'ed, not the purchased content.

yup nothing in the article that is technically wrong that i see. if the dude might not explain fsb speeds to his audience quite right so what, we are talking about ipod stuff for normal customers..and the bits that matter to them. all that matters is functionality..

the nonfunctional wheel is pretty sad though. lame copy, no confidence, they shoulda just gone with their own button scheme without the fake out circle.

$1 of Zune price goes straight to Universal Music, won't pass "go"

11/9/2006 1:41:10 PM, by Anders Bylund

Microsoft's Zune media player, due for retail release next week, will have the support of Vivendi Universal in an unusual contract form. For every $249 Zune player sold, Universal will get $1 (subscription required) to make up for the "unauthorized content" the company expects will make its way onto the device.

Universal says that half of the fees collected will be passed on to its stable of recording artists, including U2, Jay-Z, Linkin Park, Luciano Pavarotti, and Bon Jovi. The rest will presumably pad Vivendi's income statement a bit and make up for some of the lost CD sales revenue the industry bemoans at every opportunity.

Microsoft says it is discussing similar deals with other studios. The Zune has a wireless song-sharing feature that could raise the hackles of music industry executives, and at less than 0.5 percent of the total sale price, Universal's cut appears rather reasonable. The motivation for it, however, is open for discussion.

I've got an 8gb creative labs microphoto but have found myself wanting an ipod because I miss the wheel.

my creative is cool but to tell you the truth I don't really feel the need to store photo or make videos with my mp3 player,I just want it to play music and have an easy to use interface.

ONE DOLLAR for a device that can hold thousands of songs, the majority of which will probably be illegally obtained? :D

its not the dollar, its that the company is already bending to the will of the music companies instead of fighting for the consumer. atleast apple fought to keep the music companies from charging 2+bucks for new songs or whatever they wanted to pull. ms gladly bends over right away, thats just pretty lame, why would you want to support that.
