Haha.

Beat the crap out of the student body? Why do people have such a want to fvck with things that aren't theirs? I really don't get it.

<< Other have the school buy fortress. I think its one of the better programs out there. This season's issue of 2600 has a great in depth article of how fortress works too. >>

Heh we cracked Fortress back in middle school with a plain old bootable floopy.
I don't remember exactly how we did it since fortress somehow runs before Windows boots up, but we did it... None of the librarians ever noticed that Fortress was gone and C&C Red Alert was installed on it. We had fun on that computer for the rest of the year :D

My school uses foolproof. It's not too hard to disable, but will stop most students.

My school is really wealthy...all of our computers use a Novell Client. Each student logs in, has his/her own folder for saving docs and whatnot. However, this year they have been very stupid and didn't do all of the security like they did last year. There are lots of sites blocked, but you can save things anywhere on the computer I think and I don't know if you can install things - I haven't tried yet.

Yeah, it was really tight last year, but this year it's not.

Oh yeah, and they use some imaging program on top of that to reset most of the settings.

Another vote for FoolProof. Granted it's not hard for tech types to bypass, but since the majority of the students are not tech types it should solve the majority of the problems. My HS used FoolProof, I found ways around it, but most people either don't know enough about how to get around it, or don't want to take the time to do so. Moving to NT or 2000 with NTFS would be the best, IMO, but that would likely be cost prohibitive.

I dont exactly know how our school does it. I figure its just a basic win98 security thing. For the most part they dont really try to hack it. Sept in the Typing lab, that security is just said. I guess they never heard of a thing called IE....

my school uses Win2k for every single computer on the campus.. at least the newer ones that is. students are given a student login, and pretty much everything is locked down. works pretty well for us.

My computers at my high school use win98 and fortres(except for 1 computer lab which uses NT and u have your own login).....which is very easy to get around if u didnt know
But of course, there's not much to do with them, except me and my friends sometimes play starcraft on them

My cisco class @ the local college uses WinReset, company name is Two Cent Software. It resets everything after you reboot each time on Windows 98. It's easy to disable though, just delete the registry entry. ;)
