Hello all,

Tonight I setup my new rig. It is a Barton 2500+, Abit NF7-S, and 1Gb of Corsair TWINX (Twin 512Mb) XMS memory. After extensive troubleshooting, I figured out the reason my rig wouldn't boot was memory. Somehow both of the modules were DOA. I found this hard to belive, so memory was the last thing I tested. Sure enough, with my old Crucial DDR the system booted right up! How likely is it that both are defective? I've tested both modules in other systems and with them no system will boot. I guess I'll just have to RMA them to Newegg:|

Thanks,
Swan

You want a cookie? :-D

Did you try with only one module at a time? In various slots? Made sure the BIOS settings were right for the memory?

Hold on.

Grab the latest BIOS from Abit and flash.

Set your memory settings in the BIOS first to 133/133 and save and exit. Then power down.

Insert the TwinX and see if that helps

Also, Read this first.

And this is Newegg's fault why?

Or did you pay them an extra $50 to pre-test the memory for you?

Beware, speaking ill of the Holy Newegg can lead to a trip to the burnin' stake or an introduction to the lynchin' rope ;)

So...did you get your problem fixed? If so, update the thread so that others might benefit from your experience.

Edit: He's probably too busy tweaking his PC ;)

I think he was just venting his disappointment. Nothing wrong with that. I know I'd be disappointed if my new rig wasn't 100%.

Sorry I haven't responded, I was gone all day.

Yes, I was just venting my dissapointment. I'm not mad at Newegg or Corsair. I know this stuff happens.

Anyway, I'll be gone for a week on vacation anyway, so hopefully the RAM will come back from RMA in that time and it will work.

And yes, I did try it with other DDR and changing BIOS settings, so I know something was wrong. I also tested with them one at a time.
