All the research I have done, says that it is mainly genetic, but can be caused by loud prolonged noises.

I listen to music very loudly, in my car... but that's partly because I can't hear it :D

I always have to turn the TV up real loud to hear it.

There is constantly ringing in my ears...

There are some treatments for Tinnitus, although none of them are that great. Have you ever checked into it?

Nope. I have been meaning to go to an ear doctor... but just haven't had the initiative or time.

Both ears for years & years now.

Too much loud music, too many guns & motors, too music motorcycle riding without hearing protection.

I can't freaking hear a thing in a club, or a noisy restaurant and I can't localize high pitched sounds.

Too late for me, save your ears folks. Do you really need a sub in your car that can be heard 2 blocks away?

It often gets better with age, it will actually fade or people gro accustomed to it.

Have it in the right ear. It was incredibly annoying the first week or so and it really sucked that I couldn't enjoy movies and music like I used to. I then saw an awesome ENT doc and had a complete cleaning of the ears and sinuses (they stick that tube up through your nostrils and poke around in your sinus cavities) and that thankfully lessened the ringing by a huge amount because apparently the greatest cause of my ringing was from a severe cold I came down with a week or so before it started. I left the doc's office hearing better than I ever had in my life and it was an enormous relief, even though I still have slight ringing that is only audible in complete silence. Nonetheless, I take care of the good 'ol eardrums nowadays.

And we all suffer from William Shatner. Tell me now, what's worse?

haha, great post.

i play in a massively loud rock band, but i always wear earplugs. i keep a pair in a case in my pocket at all times so i don't get caught without them. keys, wallet, earplugs.

not sure if this is the same thing, but sometimes if i'm really tired and I go to bed...while I'm laying there, everything all quiet, i can hear this ringing/noise in my ears...and it's kinda weird b/c it's there and it's not there. Don't really know how to explain it.

Is it ONLY when you go to bed or just when you are in a quiet room? I can only hear my Tinnitus in a quiet room, usually when I go to bed. For instance, the sound of my CPU fan completely wipes it out.

yeah pretty much i only hear it when I'm in a really quiet room. I don't have to be sleeping even, if I'm just sitting really still...i'll hear some noise in my ears that's kind of ringing/static...not sure how to explain...

Hehe, I always thought I was hearing my blood flow through my head.

Nope, I'm almost certain that's Tinnitus. You should have it checked out by an ear doctor.

I always have heard a ringing sound in my ears whenever a room was really quiet. I thought it was normal for everyone :(

Yes, it can get better, but it can also get worse. In fact my ear doctor is going to have be go back in, in 6 months to get another hearing test to make sure my hearing is not degrading. Unfortunately the ear doctor says there is nothing in my ears that would be causing my Tinnitus, so I guess I'm outta luck, just have to live with it. :(

Good news is that I have normal hearing in both ears, so I guess I didn't suffer any hearing loss yet. :)

The fact that I have to use those ugly pieces of paper everyday has gotten to me quite enough.

Well shooting without earplugs is a no no for a right handed person it will happen in the right ear first.
I have it pretty bad from years of industrial noise but I am lucky it is C# and I can use it to tune my steel guitar.
