I really regret wasting so much time and money on the NDS

I know this has been discussed many times, I just wanted to rant about my personal experiance. I also wanted to explicitly state what I think is really - not right - about DS.

I owned to original NDS Lite for a little over a year and played several highly rated games on it. Out of all of them, only Zelda and Metroid felt like real hand held video game experiences.

I am not the first to say, that the DS would not appeal to traditional gamers because it does not make use of the design conventions recognized by most gamers. I have a hard time even thinking of the DS a gaming console.

So just because something doesnt abide by conventions doesnt mean its not a legitimate, right? But Whats the point of innovation when you make absolutely no reference to the way games have changed and improved in the last 20 years? Most of the time I've spent on my DS was so shallow, so unfullfiling, so GIMMICKY, as a gamer, I was wholly and completely unsatisfied.

I like innovation, I want more innovation, but not the way Nintendo has done it. You must use existing conventions as a framework for innovation, you can't just say "FUCK YALL I DON'T NEED GUITARS TO PLAY ROCK MUSIC". Yes you do Nintendo, yes you do.

I do as well, because it's not a console.
It's a handheld device, one that works very well and is impressive for it's size.
As with any game device there are a ton of bad games, but there are alot of great ones.

Yea I don't know what this guy expects. If you want good games then buy only good games. Every system has good and bad games.

I bought a used DS with Pokemon. Enjoyed the games when they first came out but the series has gotten really stale. There's not a lot of games for it that interest me in retrospect. I'm definitely going to sell it. I haven't touched it in almost a year.

Learn japanese, and play Super ROBOT wars.

I don't particularly care for the DS either, but there are a TON of games out there to play that aren't gimmicky with the touch control.

I mean, if you only like shooters, I see your point. But, the DS does have plenty of excellent games.

the DS was not meant to appeal to the typical gamer...Have you seen some of the games on the NDS? If you want a more gaming oriented "handheld" get a psp and purchase some games off the PSN. Its a updated gameboy thats all. with 100 Million different version's of mario

I have a DS and just got a DSi XL. i love it. its great for when i want 10-20 min of gameing while waiting for a appointment or such.

its not a hard core gaming system at all. but it is fun.

I can't and don't play handhelds anymore, because every single game I play I always see as an inferior version of what could have been an amazing console game.

The PSP has great games, but it only has like 5 of them.

The NDS has 10x as many good games, but not quite as good as what the PSP has to offer.

The 3FD looks to change this though, as it hyas an excellent lineup.

Yea, NDS is a piece of shit for the LOSERS amongst Gamers. Whatever those Lesser humans do is none of our super being gamer's concern. Lol

Mine has been gathering dust. Don't know what to play on it. After playing Chrono Trigger, everything else seems like crap. Recently I was playing the 2nd Zelda but I can't stand the controls anymore, I used up my patience in the first game.

And I have a DSi. I knew it was a gimmicky rehash, but I wanted the larger screen size and greater brightness. It does feel a bit like waste.

I haven't picked up a DS yet for several reasons:

- Many of the JRPGs that sound interesting have a Powerpuff Girls / bobblehead look for the characters. It's hard for me to get into a game that looks like that.

- I don't often find myself away from home waiting 10+ minutes for something. I'd only play it at home.

- I have a huge backlog of games for my PS2, PS3, 360 and PC.

But otherwise, there's nothing wrong with it and there are piles of games for it that look at least mildly interesting.

The DS has some good games, unfortunately a lot of them are things you've played before and not everyone wants to play them again. Super Mario 64 was remade for the DS, and had a few changes but not many. Mario Kart DS was fun, but not all that different from the old ones. The newer SMB game was good, but just more 2D mario platforming. Yoshi's Island... again, pretty much the same thing we've seen before. Zelda was different enough to feel fresh.

Most of what I've liked have been puzzle and Professor Layton games... so very simple type things.

What are these conventions that you mentioned several times in your post? The only thing I care about is whether I enjoy playing a game. DS has games that I enjoy playing.

What strikes me is that you say you regret wasting time on the NDS. This is illogical and absurd. I can understand regretting wasting the money, but the time? If you didn't enjoy playing the games, why did you keep playing them? And if you did enjoy playing the games, why do you regret spending the time?

I enjoyed the time I spent with my DS... I owned one for about 6 months and played all the best games (2007) and sold it for almost as much as I paid for it.
