I really need to learn how to grocery shop.

I just spent $85 on nothing at the grocery store.

I remember growing up my dad used to complain he spent a hundred dollars to feed all 3 of us for a month.

When I spend a hundred bucks its like maybe one week just for myself.

u shoppin' hungry?

and that doesn't look like much for $85 unless you bought all that stuff at a gas station

You must have some big fat ribeye steak hidden in there because that stuff isn't $85. I could buy the same crap at Whole Foods and pay less than 1/2 that.

Judging by the contents of that freezer, you need to learn how to cook first, then learn how to shop. you could cook up a hell of a lot of waffles for $85.

Someone once told me a great rule of thumb for grocery shopping--only buy what is located on the inside perimeter of the store. Usually that's going to mean fruits, vegetables, fresh meats, bread, milk/juice.

There are some exceptions (i.e. flour) but it is usually cheaper, and definitely more healthy than that plastic food you bought

Quit buying so much garbage food. It will be better for your budget, better for your health, and MUCH better for your diabetic son.

Start getting the local newspaper and shop the sales ads and use coupons. It's surprising how much money you can save with just a little work.

(besides, you can piss off lots of people when you pull out all the coupons in the check-out line)

My girlfriend and I eat *good* home-cooked meals almost every night for ~$225/month.

It is none of my doing, though. She is the super-shopper. Before we moved in together, my fridge looked a lot like OP's.

My girlfriend and I started off on www.allrecipes.com

Cook the basic staples, you'll get better along the way, then venture out of your comfort zone. It's really not hard to make a delicious meal with some basic produce and proteins. To save money these days, we buy all of our meats at Costco and freeze them. The night before we take out the meat for the next day to put in the fridge. At the primary grocery store we mainly buy produce / dairy, you can save a lot and make some great food this way.

Looks like my freezer. I can't be bothered to cook big meals just for me. It's nice to be able to throw something in the oven, microwave or toaster and eat within less than 15 minutes, with no cleanup after. Once in a while I'll cook up something but not every day. I really should learn more stuff, just can't be bothered.
