I really like Movable Type.

It just looks good. The plain old default installation is elegant and easy to customize, everything is easy to use... it's a well done product 🙂

Anyway, here's my Movable Type experiment.

It's no harder to use than these forums.
Of course, if you want to customize the way it looks and stuff, you'll need to know HTML and/or CSS.

Nice stuff, but when I needed a blog I ended up writing my own on php/PostgreSQL with similiar capabilities. One advantage in mine was that all the info is stored in the db, and the link is always to the same php file with different arguments indicating which record you want. So, the html/php files do not proliferate as your blog grows older, and the information is easier to search and organize thanks to the db layout.

Version 3.0 is free if you have a one weblog with one author. Outside of collaboration sites like Boing Boing I don't see that as a problem.

My MovableType 2.661 weblog.

If you are on a Mac be sure to check out Ecto. It's an OS X weblog publishing tool so you don't need to use the web interface (not that there is anything wrong with it).

Oh yeah, you are also going to want to install the mt-blacklist plug-in because MT blogs get inundated with comment spam. Unfortunatly I don't think it is 3.0 compatible at this time.

I've been using WordPress. Works fine and dandy.

Movable type is good too, but it just didn't appeal to me that much.

Nice layout!

I checked out moveable type to begin with but settled on blogger. Now that Google owns Blogger, they came out with some awesome features like email-to-blog, integration with hello, and comments. All the new templates are CSS based to and look quite spiffy.

Here's my custom one: http://www.mikecpeck.com/
