That may or not be the case.
Don't think your friend is so innocent. Many ring leaders are cutting down on middlemen that will rat them out to rid themselves of charges. Quite simply, they do the theft themselves.

Jumping to conclusions, are we?

The person buys big boxes with thousands of razors in each box. If they are stolen then it would have to be a serious operation. This guy seems to think the razors come from shipping salvage companies, where cases might be damaged and the non-broken contents are sold.

Whether or not this is true, I don't know. But either way, selling stolen razorblades is definitely wrong and this is one of the things I hate about ebay.

Not really. Take a wild guess what I do and work with for a living. From petty theft to serious ORC.

AFAIK, P&G doesn't receive salvaged items back from stores. They just put all claimed defective merchandise into a loss ledger and reimburse the authorized retailer with discounts, incentives and/or merchandise. Individual stores are responsible for destroying the merchandise. P&G will do this with stores in a substantial monetary agreement to prevent fraud. With that said, there is no company that will have salvaged Gillette products.

I don't mean to be like "NOPE!" but it is something I know quite a bit about. Sadly :\

Wait till you get to 5 blades.

I made the jump after I ran out of Mach 3 blades. The Fusion is better though. Worth the premium over the Mach 3. But overall blade prices are ridic.

I agree the Fusion is better, but the refills are so expensive. I just paid $40 (with a $3 coupon) for 16 refills and a new razor last night. I was tempted to get the cheaper ones, but it really is worth the difference. I got them at Bjs. http://shop.bjs.com/Gillette-Fusion...VproductId54141882VVcatId428349VVviewprod.htm

I stopped using razors about a year ago. I just bought a beard and mustache trimmer and use it on it's closest setting once a week.

Shaving is such a pain in the ass.

Does the Miami Vice theme play whenever you get out of your Delorean?

You need to use enough shaving cream. That happens when I dont and my hair has been growing for a few days.

I used to monitor the "Free Stuff" forum and sign up any time Gillette or others offered free razors. Since they came with a blade, that was a good way to get a good shave for a couple of months. :) I think I wound up with 2 or 3 Mach 3s, a couple of Fusions, and at least 1 Shick Quattro.

Same with me. I've embraced the perma-scruff Brett Favre look. I cycle it into a beard that follows my Jawline (trimming my neck), then when it all gets too long I trim it all and start the cycle over.

I used to scour either CVS or Walgreens for deals on razors before my husband went with an electric shaver.

If you have the patience, CVS (well they used to) and Walgreens would usually run a deal that priced the razor at 8.99 with 4.00 back either in ECB's (at CVS) or Register Rewards (at Walgreens.)

In the Sunday paper, at least once a month, there will usually be a coupon for 4.00 off the Fusion kit.

If you can find the deal, use your coupon to make your out of pocket price 4.99 + tax, and you get 4.00 back in a coupon to spend on your next purchase, effectively making the price 0.99 + tax.

screw the blade companies and their sky high prices. the cheap disposables 3-4 blades work just as good and are cheap.

my wife got me a goodfellas safety razor and a badger hair brush for xmas and i absolutely love it. and even cheaper than disposables. i can put in a new fresh blade every morning and not even come close to the expense of the multi-blades cartridges.

Bought one of these about a year ago, used to exclusively use Mach3's. Takes a bit longer, but I love the shave it gives, and $0.25 blades are nice as well.

PSA: dry your blade for a longer life. The water on the blade makes them lose their edge faster.

A blade can easily last me all month. There for a pack of 12 for 20 bucks is a small price to pay for a year of shaving.

if you look and buy in bulk (heh like 100 blades at a time) you can get them even cheaper then that..

I like getting sampler packs with different blades to try.

FYI shavingfactory.com order the 200 blade pack for the merkur safety razor blades and for coupon code of "bb" and you end up with 200 blades for $19.49 with free shipping.

I ordered a sampler pack from westcoast shaving the other day to give red personnas and Feathers a try for the first time.

I have the Merkur Barberpole

<obligatory>would that be considered alternator-sized?</obligatory>

Yeah I realize I could get them cheaper by buying in bulk, but I'm still doing sampler packs to test different blades at this point.

Thanks to LinuxIdiot for the link as well, I'll give their store a browse!

LOL...it's about $30 for 8 blades (Mach 3) where I live.

I now have a thin beard/stache/handlebars so I only need to touch that up with a trimmer and use the Mach 3 a bit every 3 days or so.

Before that, I would only shave twice a week and rock the perma-shadow just to extend the life of the blades.

Absolutely ridiculous.

Costco price on Mach 3's is not really a bargain. Your local supermarket probably has them same price or cheaper.

Soak them in alcohol when not in use. I have a little plastic dish just for that. They last MUCH longer. Also, experiment with shaving creams until you find one that gives you a super smooth shave. If the shaving process is unpleasant you are probably wearing out the blade too fast.
We had a whole thread on shaving cream here in ATOT recently.

Yep. I started using a DE razor back in 2005, simply because of the price for Mach3 cartridges. I definitely love the shave I get, though I abandoned the whole badger/boar brush thing some time ago. I just use my hands, regular soap and shave in the shower.

Altogether, I've spent less on the handle and razors in the last 5 years, than I would on a 6-month supply of Mach3/5 cartridges.

pseudofolliculitis barbae FTL :(
A DE razor may actually help.

I don't remember the cost or amount of blades when I bought from Costco. It was a few months ago and still have about 5 or 6 blades left.

I want to say is was about $40. It might have been 20 blades, but I'm not 100% sure. It wasn't a super deal, but it was slightly cheaper than buying them at the local grocery store.

Grow a beard, Save money .....

I just use clippers every couple of months when the beard gets several inches long, and shave the top of my neck every week or so ....
